turbo rants and oil annoyances
im undecided on what i want to do now.
as much as turbo fever is an overwhelming adrenaline rush, i havent been enjoying it for almost a year now.
my turbo is blown. oil is leaking into the intercooler piping and possibly in the downpipe. i used to blow out bluish/white/gray exhaust smoke for a while... but now its not a visible problem. turbo doesnt spool at all anymore. i havent checked for shaft play just yet... but i know the seals are blown. bearings probably shot with some shaft play on the turbines. who knows.
my car bogs out every now and then... probably because of the oil leaking and often theres not enough oil in the motor. white smoke blows out like a smoke screen when im on the gas at WOT as it bogs during inclines, rarely during regular speeds. i could possibly have a fuel system problem. because of the oil leaks... i always have to add more oil to the engine. the annoying intercooler pipe oil leaks, nasty black soot above the exhaust tip, and the unmarked dipstick speaks for itself.
my motor is at 150+ across the cylinders.
i figured i would need:
turbo rebuild $350 or new turbo $650
new oil return kit $75
b18b motor $800
new clutch $450
labor $750
and whatever else i would need to get it running hard like it used to.
racing isnt as fun as it used to. as much as its fun to hear the blow off valve and spank some fools in a race... the cost value doesnt equal the entertainment value.
sometimes, i rather just take off the kit... sell it... put on regular boltons and just commute in style. arghhh...
i dont think spending $2000+ on parts and labor is worth it anymore. i dont have time to work on my car. i want to spend my money on bills and bigger things (like a house)... im confused on what to do.

You sure it is your oil return? You may need a restrictor for the feed.
What kind of setup did you have in the first place? Was it kinda ghetto? No offense but I am a firm believer of doing things right the first time which usually saves money in the long run.

it wasnt ghetto. the setup lasted for about 2 years before i started having trouble. the main problem i had was the darn oil return line. i used that galvanized metal tube that came with the kit. i "fixed" the oil leak coming from the weld on the oil pan with jb weld. thats the only ghetto part of it. it was installed pretty clean. what restrictor for the feed are you referring to?
