Palm pilot & turbo edit or e-manage?
I was thinking about getting a lap top so I can run Turbo edit or even a greddy e-manage in my car. Well I started thinking about how much a lap top is and was turned away by the idea. Then I thought wait....what about a palm pilot. It is a Windows based handheld computer so would it work?

Palm and handspring devices use PalmOS, which is not windows. TurboEdit (or rather PGMFI ROMs) have the logging enabled so you can use ECUcontrol for palm. although i do not know anyone who was successful with that. I think it has to do with the fact that some Palm devices use TTL protocol and some RS232. using a TTL device with a Max232 board installed will not work.

Turbo edit doesn't require much, I would look for something around a 200-300 MHz laptop on ebay, my friend picked up an awsome little IBM Think Pad that was a 233mhz for $150 to tune his LinkPlus system.
What has been up with Turbo Edit's site lately, it just redirects to driftkids? I know Jason is a part of both but there is no turboedit info anymore?

You want the AutoTap for Palm or for that matter Windows program package. I have it and it works great on both my laptop and the Tungsten T. Special adaptor cables are needed to go from the AutoTap unit to the computer. Check out the line at http://www.autotap.com.
BTW: Autotap Joe is a really neat guy to deal with. I do have a unit for sale that runs on a laptop and will read Imports and Chrysler codes (OBD-II) for sale; and it is upgradeable. E-mail me if interested (was posted in For Sale a while back). AutoTap can also clear CEL's.
For those with HP and similar handheld computers they must be able to run Windows 98SE or higher in order to use the newer software packages. There is a DOS version of Autotap, btw.

The one that I was thinking of was by "Nology" its a PDA Dyno, its suppose to measure Horsepower and Torque, 0 to 60 times, 1/8 and 1/4 time and speed, and Fuel Economy.
Not to sure how accuate though...

It seems to look that way on the site too, id look into that for tuning, cuz u could play games while bored, then hook it up and tune your car with it... how cool is that!

I talked to Jason Parker... he says the problems with the redirecting can be cut out by simply timing the whole address...

As best as I can determine from tests and phone chats with AutoTap - the Nology product is virtually identical to theirs and is not exactly what you think. Keep in mind how a "Dyno" works. I am not knocking the product-just telling what I have learned so far. I would like to know how you get a true torque value from basic engine management data. I am also aware that horsepower is a derived value. Hope that gives some thought to what you are looking at.
