Default Normal Tranny Operation?!?

ok.. 88 CRX si, is the car. stock trans. Centerforce DF clutch w/ lightened OEM flywheel.

I've driven other cars, Ford, Cavs, Neons etc etc..and non exhibit this problem.. however.. never driven another 4g. civic/crx.

While driving I find it IMPOSSIBLE to shift into a LOWER gear unless I rev up the motor. For example... Coming up to a red light.. downshifting from 4 to 3. The shift level WILL NOT go into 3rd gear unless I rev the motor to 3k, is this normal??? This same thing occurs from 3 to 2 shift. 1st gear I cannot get into unless I'm at a COMPLETE stop.

That often times is a sign that your synchro's in your tranny are going bad.

so when you're going 100km/h (60mph) you can push in the clutch and put the car into ANY gear you choose? (of course not letting the clutch out) DAMN!!!!

thx.

you should be able to freely get it into all the gears minus 1st and reverse. 1st should go in relatively easy imo, anywhere between 15-35mph. The problem you describe is similar when my clutch disc broke off a metal bracket. 1st gear pretty much wouldnt go in til a dead stop, grinding when shifting, hard to downshift, occaisional stuttering, occaisional chattering sound, hard to smoothly engage clutch especially 1st gear from a stop.

you see thats the funny thing. NO grinding, even at redline shifting. and every other operation of the trans is fine. Reverse will grind if you're not dead stopped but every car does that right? another reason to swap to bseries i guess.

when you are in gear push the clutch in put it in neutral let the clucth out then push the clutch back in and put it in gear.....Hence double clutching......

what you described what an upshift double clutch. that was used one old cars that didnt have syncros.. now adays its no use... unless you have no 2nd and third gear syncro like me

when you are down shifting double clutching you:
1. hit the clutch
2 put it in neutral
3 let out the clutch
4 rev the engine to the rpm that it would be in the gear you wish to go into.
5 hit the clutch
6 put it into the lower gear.

this saves ware and tear on the clutch and the syncros.

it may sound like it takes some time, but once you get the hang of it, its really easy
