Hard to shift to First gear????
Does anyone know what can cause a tranny to be difficult to shift into some gears? It's hard to shift into 1st on my gsr tranny... But while driving everything is fine, no grinds nothing.
good question. i have the same problem on my si tranny. mainly if i try and down shift to 1st. but sometimes from a red light i have to clutch again to put it into gear.
that's just how its supposed to be! your NOT supposed to DOWNSHIFT INTO 1st!!!
what your doing is compression braking... bad for your motor and tranny and clutch.
DOWNSHIFTING is when you are cruising @ 60 in 5th gear, and rev it up and put it in 3rd to tear *** past someone. THATS DOWNSHIFTING!! PUTTING IT IN A LOWER GEAR TO GET YOUR RPMS UP INTO THE POWER BAND
not ******* up your motor/tranny/clutch like most rice boys do. they like to hear the sound of their engine wind down
(blkcivicpn0i, 1st gear sometimes can be difficult like reverse. you might have to roll forward or back just a little to get the teeth to line up right in the trans.)

What are you even talking about. I'm sure these guys are having a hard time just putting it into first, god forbid if they use the term downshifting when trying to describe their problem.
There is nothing wrong with engine braking, as long as its not too extreme. I guess you always push in the clutch when you go down hills or give it more gas.
BTW- first is nothing like reverse........reverse is a straight cut gear with no syncro.

Yea, if I let the car roll a lil it'll be smooth to shift into 1st.. but if i'm at a dead stop, it's hard to put into 1st and a lil notchy going through the gears. Is there any fix to this?
most likly a syncro. but do not rule out something like a bent shift fork rod, bad or weak detent spring or the shift linkage is sloppy or bent. most likly its a syncro or the gear itself.
Detent spring is that the spring under the tranny, where you take out two 12 bolts and you'll see a spring, the shop had told me that I can replace that and could fix it. Would using a Si shift linkage and shifter be compatible with a gsr tranny? any issues with using it?

i agree all the way. also check if you have enough fluid on your tranny.my 90 prelude was doing the same thing about trying to put it in first at a stoplight.and it was a bitch because when the light turned green i was still strugling to put it in first.i checked my fluid and it needed like halfquart.i added lucas oils stabilizer to make up for that missing half quart and is a breze to shift into first.but you had to stop all the way before you do so.i hope this helped
