Default 1st Gen B16 Head

Is there any difference between the first gen B16 head and the newer B16's we have here?

Yeah. The cam cap rails are cast on the 1st gen head and the oil passages are a little better on the 2nd gen head. The 1st gen head also had crappy cams.

Are these differences going to be that big of a deal for like a poor mans type-r setup?

If your going to be swapping out the cams then it won't really make a difference.

No just swap out the cams, valve springs and retainers. You'll do just fine with a 1st gen.

If you are asking about my avatar, then yes, it is a real pic. I got it off of http://www.uglypeople.com .

Yeah, I know the cams are poop. I am going to upgrade to ITR cams.

I found a shop near by here that will do all the machine work to the head for a B20 setup. Is 500 bucks a good deal for it? This also includes all the fittings and lines.

Actually some of the 1st gen heads have less core shift - maybe it means something to you - or maybe you could care less. just my $.02

It's when the Casting (2 Molds Pressed Together with Molten Aluminum Poured in)
Shifts from it's original position, causing slight differences between each side. This can cause problem when you port the head because some surfaces might have less material than others, causing problems.

He was saying that 1st Gen Castings supposedly have less core shift, meaning they were better quality castings.

Ok, that is cool. Now I feel better about buying one of the heads.
