well i was just wondering what the difference in ##### and $$$$$ will be doing a crvtec or h22 swap.I will need to do a full swap on either of them so if someone can give me their thoughts,pros and cons.or tell me which will u do and why

i'd say b20 vtec

 

Just like the age old arguement of H22 vs. B18C, everyone here will tell you use the Search button ( https://honda-tech.com/zerosearch ) and do some research.

In a nut shell, B20 is good for building, H22 has the torque. Question is what do you want from you car, and since we're on topic, what car is the swap for? Another good idea is taking a look at your budget and taking into consideration what other modifications you'll have to do.

If you really want my vote, I say go for the H22

 

where are the people that will be like blah blah, H22 are TOO heavy, and you have crappy steering? i vote for H22

H22 if you just want to drop something in that makes power. CRVTEC if you want to tear down a engine, bring the block and head to the machine shop a few times honing it checking crank, plugging vtec oil gallies in the head, worrying about what kind of piston to put in for NA or boost. needing to chip your ecu or get hondata, getting oil squirters for pistons, getting GSR bridge or Z10, getting that vtec oil line from block to head, Type R oil pump, making sure your VTEC Timing belt is installed with a VTEC Water pump and a VTEC oil pump just for incase. then looking into a GSR tranny then blah blah blah Balancing it... port and polish. CRVTEC is the tuners engine. In the end, if you want to show off your ability to work a engine and tune it do a CRVTEC. But if your not willing to put alot of work into something like that Get a H22 instant power. H22 has instant great power, while CRVTEC needs care in building and $$$ I jumped into my LS/VTEC project expecting to finish it no probs, it's been 5 months in the making now and I've spent soo much money it makes baby jesus cry. Save yourself the headache and get a H22. My setup is going to kick *** but it's kicking my *** getting there

both are great but i'd take the CR-VTEC over the H22 just because of simplicity of installation and the vast and endless OEM and aftermarkte parts that are avaible for it.

the swap will be going into a 96 hatch wich now has a sohc turboed i know u will tell me to keep the sohc but i will like to star of with more power and then turbo and then build up. so what u guys think

 

IMO the H22 is crap, even when built you can only push it to 7k, thats all the motor and tranny is good for, all that torque for breaking axles and going nowhere. Go get a CRVTEC, much better and cheaper and worth it if you get the block balanced out.

what proof do you have behind that statement? I've been working on an h22, that right now is still stock block, and we are makgin power to 8k, and we shift it regularly at 8500.

And if you think like 150-175 some odd ft-lbs of tq, is axle snapping power, you need to learn how to drive.

And i've never priced out a b20/vtec build up, but i dont see it being that much cheaper than an h22, i mean u figure about 2300 for the complete swap and 700 in mounts and axles. So 3k you got it done. And in an EH body you'll be running mid to high 13s all day long.

 

H22A is the way, I have fun with it everyday.

 

I would say B20vtec just because I have a b20z

Instead of listing the negative things about the h22 is there anything positive about the motor? How about stating the facts and not trying to steer people away from an h22 swap.

One question? You got your *** handed to you by an H22? I realise thats why people usually hate on them....

Who the hell told you wrong? My rev limiter is @ 8500 son.

 

h22, OEM reliability and monster torque? H22 has them both. i dont know the same can be said for b20Vtec
