Help pick T3/T4 for a G60 1.8 8v VW engine...
Hi, This is for a friend of mine. I am trying to help him pick a turbo for his VW. He has a Corrado G6 that he will be swapping for a turbo setup. I am trying to size him a nice turbo. I am mostly concerned with exhaust housing A/R, but picking a nice compressor would be good too. I am wondering whether the .63 hot side would be too laggy on this 8valve engine. Their VE is nowhere near that of a honda. I appreciate any help you guys could give me. Anyone who wants to tell me this is a honda forum, please do so. I could care less.
I had a g60...t3/t4 is kinda big for it, I think they have like 8.5:1 compression or something like that...redlines so low (6200?) by the time it spools it will be time to change gears...maybe a 16g would work ok?
Tell him to sell it and get a civic

try "liborvr6" on this board he just got a massive turbo from precision or innovative for his VW project, PS tell your buddy I have a charger pulley for his G60 will give him 40% more power when chipped.
u can get away w/ a t3/t4. we ran a turbonetics t3/t4 to4b "s" trim, .48 hot side w/ a stage 2 wheel. car was trapping at 108mph, running 13.7's launching easy out of the hole to avoid blowing the tranny (2.6 60 time). the 48 was pulling hard to redline, and spooled quickly. i think a .63 would be useable, but the power band will be short. if you had a 16v, then a .63 may be bette suited. Although, on my 16v setup, i was running similar turbo as above, full boost by 3k, pulling hard to 7200. made 300 at the wheel at 15lbs, ran 12.7 in the 1/4. yet im bumping to a bigger turbo (to4s) w/ a .63 to get more top end.
biggest thing is the fueling and headwork on g-60 motors. sns tunning makes good chips. headwork, try to get as much removed as you can to increase flow. cam wise, we left it at zero timing as advancing/retarding gave either a hp increase, but torque loss and vice versa. set at 0 was where the best all around result was at.
block wise, u can swap parts w/ audi to make a bomb proof bottom end. use a set of audi 5 k pistons in the pg (stock g-60 block). measure the oil squirters notches on the stock g60 pistons, then transfer the measurements over to the audi pistons and take them to a machine shop to get them cut. use either the audi piston rings or the g60 rings, didn't matter as long as the block you are using doesn't need bored. the ring thicknesses are the same as well. wrist pins are identical. only thing that keeps you from using the audi rods is the rod to crank journals are smaller on the audi rods. but g60 rods are identical except for them having the bigger rod bearing journal. if you have a 1.7l vw crank, you could use audi 5000 rods/pistons. everything fits, aside from the oil squirter notches.

Excellent info. This would be on a stock G60, so he may end up with the .48 hot side. He is only 17, so I don't think he will be going all out on it, but who knows...
