Default t3/t4 turbo selection help needed

hi, hows it going. my name is Erik and want to get my 98 civic coupe ex into the low 12s or better. i am debating right now between the t3/t4 50trim .48a/r and the t3/t4 50trim .63a/r. this is my daily also. Because i hear the .48a/r will choke out about 300hp is that true? is the .63 too big? which would u prefer for my goals. i know the driver, tuner, and all plays roles aswell but i was set on getting the .48 until i heard it choked out then i went to the .63 til i heard it was too big. so for those with experience or own t3/t4 turbo i need your help for my y8 motor thanks

Well the trim is based on the compressor. If you want to go with the smaller a/r turbine then i would consider the 57 or 60 trim compressor with the .48 a/t turbine. Personally i would go with the .63 to make more power up top. Honda engines dont make any low end power anyway and a t3 .63 a/r isnt that big.

My buddy spools up a .58 a/r t4 on a 1.6 pretty well. its very streetable and a .58 t4 is just a hair smaller then my .82 t3. depends on yoru tune and build how well its going to spool. Remember its fun to make boost early but id sacrafice early rpm boost for more power up top. Besides either way you go it will still spool nicely and be able to reach your goal

If im not mistaken Pink's fullrace car was running a t3/t04 57 trim with an .82 a/r and had a full 30 psi around 6500. so i would imagine the .63 57 trim is going to give you the amount of boost your loking for roughly 4500-5000

Cam timing as well as many other factors plan a big role in spool as well. advance the cam will bring your boost on a little earler, vise versa for the other affect. etc...

yea the .48 is too small i think also.

57 trim with the .63 should be fine. id expect full boost right around or just after vtec, so in the 5000 rpms range

well people have made over 400whp with the .48 so it really isnt too small and thats much higher than your goals...

PMed. but another thing which sounds totally stupid is how is the powerfulness per say when u get into boost with the .48 and the .63? i really dont know how to say it. cuz if the .63 makes that much of a difference then the wait may be worth it but if not then i may go with the .48 but again if it spools so quick wont that give me major traction issues?

What the hell are you guys all talking about? Platinum00 made 424whp/365tq @ 27 psi with a Precision SC50 .48 a/r...otherwise known as a T3/T04e 50-trim .48 a/r

I'm running one on my stock Y8 right now, and I'll be running it to the max on my GSR motor here soon.

The .48 is fine. If your looking for great spool times look into a different turbo such as the GT series ball bearing.

The headwork makes a world of difference with these small motors.

Keep in mind that I made the above numbers with a stock intake manifold and stock ignition. I personaly believe the SC50 .48 has more potensial then what I made.

platinum.
