Done a search on HT for this question..came out with some answers but not a complete one....Just picked up a complete USDM b16a2 engine that is gonna make its new home in a 96 Civic DX coupe. Mind you one of the goals is to get a BAR sticker for this. Im searching for a 96-98 Ex harness and in doing so i was told that the 2000 Si ECU will not work properly. I was recommended to get a GSR ECU. My question is ... What exactly would need to be used ECU-wise to pass these freakin emissions test here in California? Will the Si ECU present any mechanical challenges? Anybody who has a bar sticker, pleease share info!!!!

 

u have to use the SI ecu.

but the si are obd2b

and ur car is obd2a

some plugs are diferent on the ecu


look for a wire diagram.

what year is your b16? you will need a USDM OBD2 P30 ECU from a del sol. Keep in mind that the ref checks the ECU and if you are running a p72 ecu YOU WILL FAIL.

 

The b16a2 comes from a 00 SI. Can I find a wiring diagram on HT? If the Ref is checking ECU and it has to be a P2T-a11 should i then use a different engine harness. I was told to use a 96-98 EX harness because the coupe is a DX hence using the ex harness to wire up vtec...thanks guys im almost there....has anyone received a BAR sticker dropping a b16a2 on a 96-2000 civic? What was the Harness/ECU setup?

 

i recommend you use ur stock harness and modify it

you need to add
2 wires for vtec oil pressure
1 wire vtec solenoid
1 wire knock sensor
change the ckf sensor from 3 wires to 2 wires
change plug on the IAT

either way if u get the ex harness you will still have to modify it cause the harness is from a 96-98 and the ecu is from a 99-00.
