Default ECU compatibility (pertaining to CA residents with BAR knowledge)

I found the 2000 gsr engine I needed, but problem is, no ECU. Does anyone know whether I have to have the 2000 p72 obd2 corresponding to that exact engine, or can the ecu be from any 97-01 GSR? This is pertaining to the fact that I'm looking to BAR the engine in my 2000 Ek. Thanks.

you're going to need an obd2b p72 since you have a 2000 ek and your original car harness is obd2b. not sure if the obd2b p72's had immobilizer's or not tho.

You must use an '00 - '01 USDM P72 ECU, it will have an immobilizer that you will need to have removed and replaced with a dummy chip to prevent a CEL. H-T used to (and possibly still does) have a service where he would do this.
