Default What are your insurance rates on your turbo gsr's?

I want to eventually turbo my gsr, but me being only 16, insurance would be a serious problem. My insurance right now is going to be $90 a month but what might it be if i were to go FI? Waht are your insurance rates and how old are you?

Turbo won't bump up your insurance rates

At all? How can this be? It would seem that since you are modifying a car t an extreme that the insurance company would want to charge more.

Most insurance companies will tell you that if you have more than $1500 in customization. You should report this to em or else you wont get covered for anyof it if you were to total your car or get it stolen. It usually isnt that much. You can get like $5000 extra coverage on parts for like $10 - $20 more a month.

you don't say "hey i have turbo!". they won't know. if you had a civic hatch they would think "oh slow, econo ride" but you have a B18c5 swap in it. if you were speeding, would you call 911 and report yourself? my point is what they don't know won't hurt them. oh and i pay $135.00 a month

i've never seen or heard of an insurance company convering parts. i've seen my friends gsr get hauled off to a salvage yard rims, racing seats, and all. even with that extra you pay for your parts, they aren't going to give you the money you forked out for em without a fight.

It shouldn't matter. They will pay out for the car you hit's damages and you'll be responsible for your car since it's only liability.

I'm insured with AMEX, and my turbocharged Maxima got hit by an uninsured driver. My insurance paid to replace the custom rear bumper and the custom paint. I sent them the invoices for replacement/repair costs and explained to them why it was so much. They wrote the check without any hassle.

This is what my insurance told me when they came to get an estimate on my left front damage a while back. The when i showed the guy my car he noticed the rims and bodykit, and he said "You know, it would be smart to tell your agent about all these upgrades cause if you ever total your car, we would not cover any of it unless you tell us about it ahead of time and get extra coverage". In other words if your driving around in a car that is worth $10,000 and with $10,000 in upgrades. They will only give you what the car is worth. Which is 10k. Now if you had gotten extra coverage, lets say $5000 extra, they will give you $15k. Your still down 5k but its better than 10k. THe insurance company will not insure parts by them selves. Like insuring your rims or header. It has to be in a group package. Plus you have to show them receipts of everything and they will take pictures.

Again this is what my ex-insurance told me, im sure every company is different.

So there wouldn't be a problem created if i were to turbocharge the car and not tell them then?

my insurance company covered everything i had a receipt for. when i wreaked my hatch they paid for my swap, shocks, springs, clutch, exhaust, intake, and tach. they told me to fax them everything i had. but not every company is the same.

You will have no problem if you dont tell them, just dont expect them to pay for anything except the car if you total it or get it stolen.

I look at it this way, drive carefuly and dont make stupid decisions and hit someone. If they hit you then you have nothing to worry about. And just sleep with one eye open and make sure noone steals you ride. And gun would be nice also.

Check to see if you have a customization limit in your policy, some companies have them and some just pay to replace/repair and Actual Cash Value if it is totalled no matter what parts you put on your car. If you have a limit then you should worry. Check with your agent or customer service. If you have no limit then it is just a matter proving what your car is worth or what parts you had on the car if they are stolen/damaged etc.. check my sig if you have more questions..
