B16 wont pop VTEC Help!!!!!!
I need some help I did a b18A JDm first gen in to a 89 crx hf. Well here is the problem everything is running good its just the motor wont pop vtec I checked all the wireing 6 times I even got 2 ecu's PR3, I checked engine codes and code 17 came up and 6. One is vss 88-98 VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)
defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor
Now would vtec not work because of this. Is there any way that I can buypass this vss. PLease let me know or just explain how to fix it. Thank you very much

Yeah, make sure the VSS is all the way in your tranny. Does your speedometer work?

So do you have a B16A or a B18A? Lol. You NEED the VSS signal for VTEC to function. The first thing I would check would be the speedometer cable. Then, check the VSS itself.

Correct.

No, you can't bypass the VSS. You can, if you're really smart, figure out how to work around it but that involves changing ECU code
Quite frankly it's just easier to doublecheck your wiring.
The VSS is inside the gauge cluster. First thing: Is your speedo working? If not, make it work. Second thing: Try another gauge cluster. If it still doesn't "pop VTEC" start checking the wiring from the gauge cluster to the ECU.

Ok so i messed with the speedo and it started working and the ecu stoped flashing code 17. I just had to line the vss up. Well Guess what it still wont pop vtec. I have know Idea what it can be. I checked all the wiring and still wont work. But check this out my buddy told me if your car doesint hit a proper temp vtec wont work. SO im thinking and i looked up the other code it was flashing and it was code 6. Here is what it says
ECT Sensor (Engine Coolant Temperature)
defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor
My temp gauge on my gauges fluctates up and down. it will worm up and and soon as I start driving go back down. Someone told me to check the thermostat because they thought that someone squeezed in this motor so they took it out to make it run cold. Now all i want to know can it be not poping vtec because of this

The coolant sensor would do it... but the N02 would make the person put cooler plugs in there... that has nothing to do with operating temps. So get it checked out, and for the love of God, don't drive it if you don't know how warm it is... you'll destroy the motor.

Change the sensor out and then try it again, about what your friend told you he's right the engine must be warmed up to normal operating temperature for vtec to engage.
