Default K series and GM Auto Tran?

Did anyone notice the sidebar in the last SCC about someone making a
adapter plate for the GM auto trans. Any thoughts??

Man, imagine what a well built auto would do for the Hot Rod class Hondas? Minimize drivetrain breakage? 7 second Hot Rod car maybe?

is this for FWD or RWD. if it is for FWD do you make them for a 4G63

no one specifed if the tranny is a 350turbo or 400 so thats why i asked if it may seem like a stupud question.

This is the same trans that GM is using in the Hot Rod car, so it's FWD. If you
think about it, making a engine plate with both bolt patterns shouldn't be a big
deal. Then you just need to find a way to bolt it into the car.

It should also be more then competative with the new breed of race manual transmissions dollar for dollar. This might just keep the low buck racer in the
class..

Is it legal to change the engine mounting locations in Hot Rod?

The trans is called a "4T65E" It comes in the Grand Prix, and the Park Ave Ultra
with the supercharged V6 amoung other cars. I've looked inside this trans and
it makes my chysler 3 speed auto look tiny. Seems to me it does weight alot,
I'd bet in the 180 pound range.

Something else pretty cool is the trans is electric shift, with the right electronics
you could do all kinds of things.

GM was using a trans brake, not the foot brake to hold the car. No clue on the
stall speed, but I'd bet on 5500-6000 rpm.

The GM tranny is the 4T65E like mentioned above, NOT the Caddy 4T80E big daddy. THe 80 weighs some huge number, and is not needed. Plus, the 65 is not really the greatest for huge power unless fully built, which at this point, still costs big dollars. I have several GP friends who eat these trannies all the time in stock form.

I do agree, this will be the future for the Hot ROd class.

Smae goes for the chysler tran, but with work they can hold lots of power. Any
idea what needs to be done to reinforce the 4T65E for racing?

To give an idea, mine needs more clutch disc's in the pack, stronger wider band,
lots more system pressure, stronger input shaft, work in the valvebody,
and of course the right converter. Most of the work isn't beyond the average
shade tree mechanic.

i have seen the caddy trans in a wheelie car
that made 1500hp.////tthe issue i think would be it would be in north south configuration...
but it uses all 400 parts...expect the chain in the rear of the trans...i haven't seen inside the
4t65e...i personally have the f20c behind a powerglide and set it up with a v-drive but that won't work for hot rod...

This is an old post, but while I was researching I came across it. I've a friend with a GTP, and one with a GTP motor in his fiero so I know a bit about the motor/trans and where to get stuff.

http://www.intense-racing.com sells all the stuff to do the tranny up.
