Default Valve adjustment problem

my build is, stock itr head, gsr block with itr pistons. and some bolt ons. I just got the motor started up and running for a little bit. put like 20 miles on it.

the valves seemed loud so we (friend and I)started to adjust the valves. when we took the valve cover off. there were 6 valve lock nuts missing.

we found them in the oil pan, put everything back together. adjusted the valves,.007 intake side and .008 exhaust side. when the motor was cold. and started it up

the motor started right up, but the valves were still loud. turned it off, looked over the motor for parts or tools, tried starting it again and it wouldn't start, just crank with a little firing here and there like it was about to start, but kept cranking

let it sit for awhile, re-did the valves, but clearances on a couple of the valves tightened up for some reason. so we adjusted them again, torqued the nuts down as much as we could

finally finished up with the valves. and the motor now won't start. it cranks for awhile but if I give it gas while trying to start it, then it finally fires up. and the valves are still loud.

nothing besides the valves was touched, nothing unplugged or anything. there's also blow by from having bad rings, but before I take apart my motor and replace the rings I want to know what's wrong with the motor.

There is a chance that you bent some valves while those locknuts were off. Most likely the valves aren't keeping compression in the cylinders, so that is preventing your car from starting. Also, you shouldn't have torqued the nuts down as much as you could. They are supposed to be torqued to only 18lbs-ft.

dang....alright, the reason I had torqued them down so much was because my friend had done valve lash before on other motors, and twice the nuts came off, on two different motors. I just did a compression test, numbers came out to

cyl
1 212
2 160
3 190
4 62

that's also with bad rings, which are getting replaced sometime this week hopefully.

any way for sure I can find out if it's valves? or do I just need to take it to a shop?
