Get a manual an some feeler guages. It's a pack of metal strips that are of different thicknesses. It does not take too long to do. Also you achieve oneness with your vehicle Bawwhwhh!

Valve adjustment should be done by those who are experienced!..
I have just replaced a set of "burnt" exhaust valves on a 99 CRV DOHC because the valves were "overtightened" by a someone prior during a simple valve adjustment..
have it done by someone who knows and pay the $75.. or learn the way my customer did and pay $1200 for the valve job!

Re: valves tapping and diesel sounding motor (BreakStuff)
Or get a manual and feeler guages and do it right.
Anything can be screwed up if you try hard enough. But I am by no means a
mechanic, yet I have adjusted my valves. That was about a year ago and last weekend I put in a supercharger in my Civic. If I wanted to go crazy, I could have severely screwed up my Civic, I guess I could have not followed the directions. If the manual says FOR EXAMPLE .007"-.009" for the gap.
One could use the .008" and even if cranked on REAL hard so that it was a bitch to get the guage out. They would still be within specs. Or damn close.
I hear your concern, but if we all didn't take that first step, then we would all be crawling on our hands and knees in our own filth.
Hey if you can afford to spend the $75, then by all means. I'm just a poor schmuck with good reading skills.
