cheapest homemade turbo
how much did u guys spend on your turbo?? homemade that is. i have the turbo, hf mani and just one cooling line. how much more money do u think i would need to finish?? also could i just use a vafc instead of fmu injectors and fuel pump. i want to do this the right way but dont wanna **** up. thanx

I am sure that beerbong guy will chime in with his 1000 complete turbo. I would really spend the $100 on a walbro intank and the DSM injectors are fine if your limited budget.

turbo i spent 1200 on.
clutch/flywheel/exhaust/gauges another 800
i've put $2000 into it and hope to drop well over 2 secs off the qtr mile time.

LOL....knew a guy that did this in an eclipse. Didn't hold up very well under high boost. But funny to see someone wastin 60 bucks on pvc piping.

Worked fine for Sitar's 10 second budget TT 351W, he was hitting 18 psi or so. Worked fine for me if I didn't use it within a foot or so of the compressor outlet.
I've got video somewhere of a Mark Pikas' brother (whatever his name is) TT Fairmont using a 3" Homeboy Depot 90 bend going into his carb... the rubber drain piping stuff some use as hose connectors. He'd spool to about 10 psi while staging the car (hood was off) and you could watch the hose swell up like a balloon.

PVC will hold way more psi than a turbo is capable of putting out, I use it for the plumbing on my air compressor and have never had a problem whatsoever... so I know its good for at least 125psi!!!
May not be pretty, or all that good for smooth nice turns, but it will work for somebody on a serious budget!
I'm surprised it cost $60 for everything, I would say more like $40 tops!

I have done 2 sub $1000 dollar setups on my d16
heres the 1st one. 2nd is the same but with stainless manifold and a T3 and some other small changes. I sold part of the first one so actually made money upgrading the manifold/Dp and turbo
HF manifold - free (i do lots of swaps so..)
nissan T25 - 150
dsm 450cc - 40
dsm BPV - 25
adaptor plate- 5
mandrel bends -60 (keepin' it grit w/ summit)
hardware etc.. - 40
new viggen FMIC- 120 (buddy at dealer 198 was list)
SAFC - 280
autometer boost - 45
feed line from stan -50
return line NAPA - 10
total $825 +/-20
you could def go much cheaper but reliability and performance were on my list so I welded up so professional looking piping and used new oiling parts and whatnot. IF you like grinding and welding and planing your **** you can be a real cheap *** and still have a decent setup.
if PVC cost that much why not just buy mandrel bends? they are all under 20 bucks for a J bend

So far I have spent $300 not inlcuding 70 made on reselling afc and trading aftermarket header for hf manifold.
Rebuilt 14b turbo: 100
HF manifold: I traded the chikara header that was on my car for it and 50 bucks
DSM injectors: 10
DSM BOV: 20
DSM Intercooler: 30
SAFC: 180 then sold it for 200, now using ghettodyne
Boost gauge: free
DSM Intercooler Piping and aftermarket metal pieces: free with purchase of autometer egt gauge for 70
Oil feed line: 50 from mcmaster carr online
DSM oil drain modified to work on my engine : free
Extra oil pan: free
Extra grand national intercooler: free
Hose Clamps: free

You can get a log manifold from stealthmode performace also for $175.

Did not even spend that much and i shaved a good 2 2.5 secs of my 1/4 mile time.
and its not even turbo.
