Default 99 SI ecu....will it work with a d16y8??

my 99 ex falls out of vtec when i shift.....and i kno that the ecu from a 99-00 si keeps the engine from falling out of vtec......soo, im wondering if the ecu from a 99 si will work with my existing engine and if my engine can take the possible abuse if its raced ina race environment........

why dont you try a vtec controller? the si ecu will give you check engine codes, ie) the B16 motor has a knock sensor and your D16 doesn't ...

your engine falling out of vtec has nothing to do with your ecu - it's your transmission. the gears are spaced too far apart, and the rpm drops below vtec.

and no... you can't use that ecu. its for a b16, which has a vtec crossover point of 4800 (i think) as comparted to your 5500. the b16 also has closer gears, and that's why it stays in vtec.

and vtec controllers with a stock engine will make you lose power. the only way to adjust your vtec xover point and gain from it is to a.) have a heavily modded engine, b) get on a dyno, and set the vtec to idle, then at redline: where ever the two lines cross is your ideal xover point. most likely 5500.

the si ecu will work but :

1) you will get a 45 code(too rich too lean)

2) shifting higher in rpm will not make you stay in vtec...it will get you closer but not enough

by the way the y8 as knock....so no trouble with that.

I've tried it ... no troubles at all, but i was skurred because the B16 has more aggressive ignition maps and I was afraid to overrev it
