Icon2 Non vtec to vtec engine

I have a 1997 Honda civic hatchback dx model the engine died on me this week, so I picked up a used zc 1.6l sohc vtec , the guy said it was out of his 1996 Honda si and that he was runing a obd2a p2p ecu, I'm just wondering if this is the right ecu, and if so would it be possible to go to the wreckers and buy a used ecu out of a 97 or 98 Honda si? And I was also wondering if I could run the car with the original ecu in it for now till I can find a vtec one ?

You can run it with your stock ecu but Vtec will never kick in considering it doesn't have the wiring to the solenoid and you don't have a vtec enabled ECU. It might even run like crap who knows? But based on Exp a non vtec motor on a vtec ecu will throw a check engine light for the vtec solenoid and you can't rev pass 5K RPM.
