Default Does my canadian 99 civic si engine have VTEC?

Hi I just bought an honda civic si 99 and I was wondering if there was a vtec on it ? I read that it should have one ! But I tried to make the rpm over 5k to 7k and didnt notice a kick or something ! Well I never drive a car with a vtec that maybe the reason ! So heres a picture of the engine ! Thanks you

There will be no real kick. Pop your hood and identify what engine you have. then google it and see if it has vtec.

Yes it has vtec and you won't feel a kick. Why does you engine look like its been submerged in water for a few years?

You may be confusing VTEC with a turbocharger.

does this car double as a submarine?
thats some horrible rust.
There wont be much of a kick... more like a small pinch.

No it is a Canada car so snow, salt and resulting rust along with not being well taken care of. Cleaning a car from to top bottom is important is areas that salt the streets. But yeah that is really really bad rust just in the engine bay alone, I would hate to see what other rust there is. You have a D16Y8 SOHC Vtec, dont expect to feel or hear the Vtec cross over. If you do a short ram intake and a header with a silent exhaust system then you will hear the cross over but you will never feel it like a B series DOHC Vtec motor.

Yeah, I had the 98 d16y8 usdm version, the vtec wasnt noticable. I'll post a pic of the one I pulled from my old engine.

On Canadian civics when the VTEC kicks in an automated voice inside the cabins repeats:

"This is your VTEC ay. You have just reached 5500 rpms ay. Prepare for a whopping kick of maybe 20HP over a gradual curve ay." Then it plays the Canadian national anthem.

5 speed, slave cylinder and reservoir for the master cylinder are both clearly visible.

Yes it's got vtec, Canadian Si = US EX
Yes that rust is normal in most parts of Canada
It's spelled "Eh" and we don't use it to punctuate every sentence eh.

yes i agree. im not seeing the vtec solenoid. if it is there, then it's not in the usual place.
OP, you need a box of sandpaper, some naval jelly, degreaser, a power washer, spray paint, and some interior shine. your engine bay looks like a turd.

all of these things will turn your engine bay from the one on the left to the one on the right. (That is my engine bay.)

yes that is a vtec motor. you can see the plug for the solenoid on the distributor.

that engine bay looks normal for a 13 year old car in a snow area.

Yeah thanks guys for all the answer ! So now I know the vtech will not really kick aha ! And I know for the rust but I got the car for 1500$ and it got 150k km so I though it wasn't that bad ! I bought some black high temperature paint and I'll try to sandpaper the engine aha
