it should have legel papers and run the vin number at a local honda dealership or ask a firend in law in forcement, make sure u have a legel agreement that it is a legel motor with paper work and vin numbers and have him sign over the motor to you, so it's legely yours, better safe then sorry, i did that for my tranny when i sold it.

if the VIN's are still on the motor, you could probably run a carfax report on them and see if the car that it belonged to was stolen. I'm not sure what information the carfax reports cover, I've never used it. But I would think something like that would show up. If the VIN's are not on the motor or tranny, then I don't know.

If the Vins are not on the motor it's not a JDM Motor, i would lean to stolen, and he filled off the numbers

Yes both vins on the motor and tranny should match the body of the car

the vin # on the motor will only match the vin # on the car if that motor came stock in that car, if it was swapped into it, it will not match!

if the motors dont have vins on the tranny or the block and its not a jdm motor then it could quite possibly ne a 94-95 obd1 motor. all pre 96 motors did not come with vins on the motors or the trannies. so dont automatically assume its stolen unless you see blatent shaving marks or scarred areas by where the VIN should be. basically on 94-95 gsr motors and 94-55 delsol b16 motors instead of the VIN plate being on teh tranyn and block you should see 2 little holes there and no plate.
