How do I find the Vin Number with the Engine's serial numbers?
I have the serial number to an engine and I want to find out the vin number so I can get the carfax. I want to know the background of the motor. Anyone?

So how do cops know if the motor is stolen or not?

it depends on the year of the motor and tranny. i beleive in 96 the us spec motor and tranny had VIN plates on them. one was on the front of the tranny adn the other was on the block of the motor beind the header. if its removed thats bad. on jdm motors cops cant tell if its hot or not but supposedly i headr that if u have a motor with no numbers its either stolen or its a jdm motor and in the jdm case u have to have paper sproving that its yours and u bought it legit. i think thats right. anyone want to correct me??

all itr motors in the US have VIN numbers on them.
To those with "JDM" swaps, they may have more hassle with the law with proof of burden the motor is not a stolen one.

Well, kind of, on me.
Yes, the motor/tranny should have a VIN plate on it. But the actual engine serial numbers have nothing to do with the VIN.
If I still had my Hype R, I'd take photos of what I'm thinking of. Let me see if I can dig something up.

Ok. By "engine serial number," do you mean the engraving under the block code, or do you mean the green tag on the tranny you see in the left of the picture?
The green tag has the VIN. The stamp under the block code has no correlation to VIN at all.
