There are three variations

D15B8 1.5 SOHC 8 valve MPFI
70 Horsepower
Civic CX

D15Z1 1.5 SOHC VTEC-E
92 Horsepower
Civic VX

D15B7 1.5 SOHC 8 valve MPFI
102 Horsepower
Civic DX and LX

I hope that helps you out on the engine specs, I believe the VX is probably different then the other ones because it is a VTEC, The CX probably has a different combustion chamber design along with different valvetrain. I might be wrong but this is all I know, hope that helps you out.

look at the stamp on the head above the exhaust manifold

P05 = CX 70 HP 8-Valve
P06 = DX 102 HP 16-Valve
P07 = VX 92 HP 16-Valve VTEC-E
P08 = EX 125 HP 16-Valve VTEC

chit. so which ones are interchangeable? what it comes down to is I need a new head for my 92 DX. Obviously I cant use a VTEC head on a non vtec motor without other changes. It looks like I can only use the 92 DX head or maybe a CX? :grr:

Thanks for the help

I think a 91 Si head would work better than a 91 dx. look for that, probly the best non-vtec d-series head.

im surprised you dint suggest a mini-me swap to him bauley . but if you going to pull the head, might as well change the timing belt, then you might as well get a z6 head and a ecu and do the swap? the p08 head would cost about 100 dollars more, plus or minus, and 100 for ecu, plus or minus? correct me if im wrong.

pull out a oil jet, ecu, some pins and wires, new timing belt, head gasket (you going to have to do that anyway) and you wouldnt have to change your dizzy for that 91 head.

What does that have to do with anything?

about 30hp difference lol

this is on my commuter car anyway and its an automatic so Im not trying to make it faster. The head problem came about while trying to diagnose another problem in that the car wont start ---> https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=737769 I was trying to pull the plugs to check them out, and one snapped. So once I get a head, I still dont know if its gonna run so trying to spend as little as possible.

I agree, for the amount of work you will have to do to swap heads you might as well just do a mini me. And for just a bit more work add a cam. If money is no object gude sells a head package for D-series motors that looks good, but I have no idea about quality, parts interchangability as that head is for a d16 but it should work. That is my .02.

Read your other post, if you did snap of a plug just drill it out, its not carbide steel, at least I dont thinks so. Your head is fine if you can get the plug out. Now its sounds like a main relay replace that and then it shoudl work. If you have a blown ignitor it wont run at all, there is a test you can perform to check the ignitor but I forget it now do a search you can find it... ok that is really my .02, you should be able to get that plug out just drill into it and back it out with a reverse drill bit, they sell them at any hardware store....much easier than swapping heads needlessly

Im not modding this car, its my beater.

I dont think drilling this out will work but Im gonna give it a shot. How Im supposed to drill through a spark plug is beyond me though. The plug is so tight in there I dont think it will back out very easy(considering it broke the plug in the first place). But either way the head has to come off so Ill give it a shot.

Thanks
