I am thinking about buying either a 18 solo x or a 13w7. I have heard the 13w7 but am still awaiting to hear the solo x. Have you guys heard it yet. Which amp would be enough to run either the solo x or the 13w7?
Thanks!
Thanks!
dude, i hope you are serious about sound, because their is no way you just jump in to either of those subs, without having a great plan and alot of money to spend on the rest of your sound. First off, the W7 should be powered by nothing less than the 1000/1 JL amp. The SOLO X is not what you want unless your going into competition, or you just want to be a pompus *** and show how much money you have to spend on way too much sound. That would require, in my mind, at least 3 amps strapped together. at least 3600 watts, you could probably power it with less, but why not go for the whole shabang. 18" square of replacable voice coil, thats not something to give only 1000 watts. Even if its the smaller Solo X, they recomend at least 2500 watts of RMS power. Lets put it this way, if your considering buying this stuff and you aren't asking these questions, you should probably not get into this money pit your building for yourself. In order to have the solo X or a W7 running correctly in a car, you had better be building that car awful special. Taking out the interior, sound deadening everything, even possibly going with thicker glass so that the sound is right. Get something basic first, then work up to insanity
get the 13w7. It's more practical for daily use. The 18 SoloX requires a huge amount of space to get the same alignment as the 13W7. THe 13w7 will have lower distortion, and thats a fact. Whether you hear it or not, who knows, but get the 13w7. Save money. If you want, I know someone selling one for $550 shipped (used not long, just for testing parameters.). No more than 1v was given to the sub.

i can get this box and 13w7 for $1000
. It has more of a clean bass sound i think. You think its a good deal for brand new?
Or i also have the 12w7 in mind now. How about this 12w7 and H.O. Wedge box for $800 brand new. This i think is very loud for the money!

Which would you buy if you were me and had the money?

if i were you, i wouldn't touch either setup. Simply cost WAY too much.
Just buy the 13w7 bare driver and then build a box. Should cost less than $650 assuming you buy the 13w7 from this one guy i know. lol
But since you said you have the money, get the 13w7 and that box.

Well I actually own a 13w7 and I have a 500/1 JL Audio amp on it and lets just say it isnt enough. Sub is craving more power then the poor little 500 can give it. I dont know anything about the Kicker X but The JL Audio is simply a awesome subwoofer for the money.

I say get the the 10000w kicker. Cut a hole in your roof and drop it in. Buy a trailer to tow the nuclear reactor your going to need to power it behind you. LOL
Damn thing is cool as hell but doesn't seem very practical.
The truckers car wash enclosure made me laugh.

This is the oddest comparison yet.
If you want spl get the X, if you want sq get the w7. Can't get any simpler than that
Where are you going to get a few thousand watts to move the X from anyway?

i built an enclosure for a excusion with two solo x's, OMFG it is loud, dont get me wrong but 120lbs each speaker and each box weighed another 90lbs each you do the math on how heavy it is
you better have something that can handle the weight. And if you see them subs in a small sealed box or something just to make them look good, they are in no way getting the full potenial of them subs.
But imho for the money you can get either 4 15's or 6 12's and make them crush the two 18's
P.S the quick replace coil is bad ***

yes i think the solo , while it does seem badass, would be a waste. you would have to spend too much time and money to build the box, get all the specs right etc. unless you are getting a sponsership from kicker or something, i would just go with a few less expensive but good quality subs, say 4 12's 3 15's
