Default Lets talk about what would be the best amplifier to go on a 13w7.........

Ok I recently purchased a 13w7, a JL audio 500/1 amp, a Kenwood Z828 and a planet audio crossover. (The cross-over was free that is why everything else is high end and then down to that cross-over) Anyway I want to order a 1000/1 JL audio amp for this sub since that is what JL audio designed this sub and that amp for each other. I recently went to my friends stereo shopand he has a new amplifier that he is trying to persuade me into purchasing. The amplifier is the Memphis Audio MOJO. He said it will push out like 2400 watts of clean power at 1 ohm. That is all fine and good but what are the benefits with going with a amp that is too big for the subwoofer? Also this is currently in a 95 Honda Civic hatchback.

That sub can handle in excess of 2000 watts with no problems.

Another amp to check out is the Orion 2500D probably about the same power if not a little more than the Mojo which is actually rated at 2ohm. The Orion is rated 2500x1 at 1ohm and i think it looks a little better than the mojo. What are the coils on your w7?

a good question to ask yourself....

can your charging system handle that kind of load?

I'll tell you now, the answer is no, so do you want to do the upgrades necessary to make it happen? That's up to you.

Personally, I'd stick with the 500/1. You will get nice sound from just that, and you won't have lots of charging system problems. Keep in mind, just because a sub can handle power doesnt' mean you have to give it to it. The larger the sub, the more efficient it will be....

just food for thought...

Go read a book

back to topic:

1000/1 will run ur sub fine. The memphis or orion you can run on ur stock electrical system no prob just dont drive around listening to test tones shouldn't draw more than 200amps at a peak listening to music.

I had a 2500D on the stock integra alternater(90amps) for competition in dbdrag and it did just fine ended up with a 151 on 2 12's

You may not need all that power, but it is always nice to have headroom.

Heres what the amps run
JL $675
Orion: $750
Memphis $650
Zapco 9.0 $1200

that Memphis may put out 2400x1@1ohm but remember, the 13W7 is a dual 1.5ohm subwoofer. You may either wire it to 0.75ohm or 3.0 ohm. an amp that does around 2000 or more watts at 2ohm would give the sub about a theoretical power of ~1500+ watts RMS.

The JL should work fine though.

The subs in the setup in my pic were dual 2's so the amp was seeing a .5ohm load daily driven no prob

Well ok let me re-specify what my system has and my wants. Ok I have a kenwood z828 as listed above then it is ran through a 4 gauge amp wiring kit. I have 4 gauge power and 4 gauge ground. So I dont think the wiring will be much of a problem. The alternator i have is a 130 amp alternator. And I also have a 1 farad capacitor. Sorry for the misinformed post. Now here are the prices i have been given.

JL Audio 1000/1======== 600
Memphis Audio MOJO=====900

On the Orion amp i have not looked into that one yet. Also today i tried out a Phoenix Gold tantrum series amp the biggest one they make which i think was rated at 1569.8 watts and was referred to as a 1200x1 amp. Anyway the box was built to exact specifications that JL Audio said it needed. 16x24 something or other. I could go and get the paper work but I am too lazy at thje moment. Anyway the subwoofer sounded like it is bottoming out. Makes a horrid popping noise like it doesnt like the power but it isnt distorted. One of the installers told me that the box isnt big enough but like i said it has been built to specs. Anyone have any idea's? Also the post above is correct and is one that I would like to be addressed. The subwoofer is dual 1.5 ohm voice coils. Is there a amp that anyone knows of that is 1/2 ohm stable that will push out good clean power? Say roughly 1000 watts allday everyday?

What is your tuning frequency? If it is making wierd noises it may have been getting too much power below tuning.

Recommended tuning for the 13W7 is 37 hz. I have it tuned as close to that as i could get with the Planet audio cross-over that i have.

whoa! 37hz is damn high. That more of an SPL tuning freq. JL audio recommends box and freq. to satisfy the average basshead. If you want better SQ and such, tune it lower. Preferably 28-32hz.

Any ideas on the best type of music or the best song In your personal opinion to tune it with? Also the cross-over i have only goes to like 35 i think so may need to get a better or more adjustable cross-over.
