Amp Wiring into a 98 Lude
Hey guys, I don't ever come in here, but got stuck helping a friend do this. The amp has low level imputs, so I can actually do it, but what wire on the stock headunit does what?? Thanks a ton guys!!
Also, where the crap did you run the power into the cabin from??? I can't find a grommett anywhere and I don't want to poke any extra holes in her car if I can help it!
EDIT: Wow the egine bay is cramped up on these things!! After looking at a Civic every day with next to nothing in there anyways.

For the power wire, I believe there is a hole on the passanger side where you can run it through. I've heard there is a cover or something like that you need to take out and you'll see a hole running through. The way I did it was that I drilled a hole by my clutch pedel and ran the wire though that. As for the stock head unit wire, I don't know what wire does what, cause I had an aftermarket head unit
Hey Guys I think I can help. I am an Audio tech (MECP first class certified, 410k certified - Automotive electronic accesory tech). There is two spots you can go through for power: 1 if you are carefull you can go through the gommet that is for your under hood fuse panel (you'll need to unbolt and move it), DON'T go in with the existing wires go right next with a wire fish. 2 there should be another grommet a little lower, again you'll need to move the fuse panel to see it. Just take a wire fish and push it through (make sure it is sharp).
About your high level hook up to the amp: your best bet is to bite the bullet and buy a deck. In all of my experiance I have never found a factory deck that was worth keeping. Even the most entry level deck is 100% better than factory. Trust me you won't regret it, especially if you buy an Alpine. But if you have to the best way to hook it up is if your amp has "high level" inputs. Look at your 6x9s the color codes should be"
Left rear +blue/yellow -grey/white
Right rear +red/yellow -brown/white
If they don't corespond, and they might not, just take the signal from one speaker and jump it to both inputs. If your driving subs they are mono anyway. If you don't have high level inputs you'll need a line level adapter and the directions sould be in the box. JUST GET A DECK ITS WAY EASIER!

Thanks a bunch man!! I appreciate all of your insight, and yes, I have a headunit in my car, but this is for a ladyfriend. She had somebody else get her this crazy amp and subs (the kicker kx800.4 and 2 MTX thunder 8000s) and shes going to run it off of the stock headunit. I need to know which wire is the sitched power as I don't have my mulitimeter anymore. Thanks for the help though dRiv3R!!! I ended up drilling another hole in the firewall and damn near hit the brake booster with the drill bit (could'nt drill from the engine bay side!!)
Oh well, the power/ground/signal wires are in, as is the remote wire, but I did'nt want to chop up her stock headunit harness without being 100 percent sure. If it wasnt her stock harness I would have clipped the ends and done the 9v battery trick to find out the speaker wires.

Thank you sir!! And btw..I do have a thread in the audio forum (about another problem I encountered during this install), but thought since this was a Prelude specific question it would be okay in here.
