Default *** Urgent: Help with Progress rear swaybar install ***

Ok... me and a couple of friends are installing my progress rear swaybar and it's supposed to require drilling into the subframe. Once you drill the holes how do access the top of the subframe crossbeam to drop the bolts down?

are you sure that you weren't supposed to drill into the rear trailing arm instead...i don't know about the progress bar, but the suspension techniques bar only requires drilling into the rear trailing arms about 1 inch in front of the factory sway bar location...

No.. we already have the swaybar mounted to the trailing arm. The drilling that's required for the progress install is into the center crossbeam of the subframe. It bolts a 'D' bracket around the swaybar and holds it to the subframe.

------ <----subframe crossbeam
\(..)/ <----- 'D' bracket around swaybar

oh i see...well i'd guess it would be either right behind the seat or under it maybe...you are going to have to start looking around and take out the back seat most likely...sorry i can't help too much...my suspension techniques bar mounted to the factory sway bar mounts in the center crossbeam...

Did your progress rear sway come with mounting brackets? I have ST front and rears. And my rear came with mounting brackets. They are the ones in black right above the red bushings. Heres a pic

Yeah the came with mounting brackets (the 'D' brackets) but the brackets must be mounted into the rear subframe. My question is, how do I access the top of the subframe? Do I have to unbolt the control arms from it and drop it before drilling?

I dont know what your talking about drilling into the subframe... I've heard civics and integras do it but for our accords you dont need to. For mine i just unbolted a bolt underneath the rear crossmember, put the bracket on ( the bracket should have an opening in the middle of it for the bolt to go through) and bolt it on.

You must be talking about the ST swaybar. The progress mounting bracket comes with 3 holes in it and specifically says you need to drill 4 holes and use 2 existing ones.

That sucks. I guess the ST sway is alot easier to install. Took a friend and me 10 minutes to install...

Yes i do. I never knew you had to do so much for the progress sway... My ST one was very easy to install. No drilling requireed at all...

Just finished installing... supposed to drill 4 holes but we couldn't figure out where to drill 2 of em. We ended up using 2 existing bolts under the car for the other 2 mounting points. Kinda ghetto but the instructions made no sense and didn't elaborate on where exactly the mounting points were supposed to be. Drilling into the subframe is a _pain in the ass_.

The ride is excellent... the rear end feels solid and doesn't roll much at all. I'll post again after my first autox event tommorow...

the pics are down...and will your method work just as well as drilling into the subframe?

btw where did you purchase the bar from and how much did it cost?

I attended my first autox Sunday and the progress bar felt great, especially in the slaloms & hairpins. A friend watching said the car didn't roll much at all and looked very stable. When I would push the car hard the rear end felt like it wanted to kick out and I had to save it a couple of times. I didn't hit a cone the entire event and ended up placing 5th out of around 10 cars in STS, around 1 or 2 seconds behind the 1st place car I think. I would definately recommend this swaybar to anyone, especially for autox.

edit: Also, I looked at the mounts after the event and they held up fine, but I may get my bro. to tack weld they mounts to the subframe just to be safe.

I got mine for around $200-215 a year ago from lightningmotorsports.com. I searched and found this : http://www.genxmuscle.com/store/62-1011, they have them for $171.
