Default EJ Motor Swap Options on a budget

I have a 98 LX 4 door automatic. Needless to say, it's time for a motor swap and a manual transmission. I'm not made of money, and I'm still paying this car off, so I'm looking for something cheap that I can swap in. I'd hope to spend about $1500 or so for parts + labor. I don't have the time or the skill to do it myself, so I'd have to pay someone else to do it. What are my options in that price range? Integra LS? Civic Si, or EX? I live in California so whatever motor goes in would have to be smog legal, which I think means that it must be a 98+ motor. Any suggestions?

see i dont think u can do either ls or si swap they are a bit more if u dont do the swap ur self

now i have a 96 civic hatch with stock engine and a greddy turbo and i love it.sure it doesnt make the numbers of dohc but its not such a bad idea to do so
easy to find parts+ cheap

now when my engine goes out (wich will be pretty soon) im going to do the ex with its matching tranny or even hx with ex/si tranny

and you also need ur engine to be obd2 wich is 96-2000

if u look around u might get engine and tranny for
$600-$700 you will need the ecu too and 2 or 3 wires to add the vtec to the harnes
a new clutch timing belt water pump is recomended since is a lot easier to do this while the engine is in the floor

and i think that covers everything but then again i have not yet do this to my car so theres a cuple thing i could be missing or that u dont need at all

good luck

now labor i dunno i think this is pretty simple swap so im gonna try to do this my self with the help of friends its a total bolt on so all i have to do is transfer the plugs in the same

How much is a complete B16 swap w/ labor going for nowadays? I thought they were somewhere in that price range.. or like low 2000.

if you look ... i mean LOOK, you might be able to find an incomplete b16a sir I swap with high mileage for around 1200 (i recently saw one). but more likely you should expect to pay 2-2500 for a good complete swap. i wouldn't bother until you had at least 3000 in your pocket - but the deals are out there...

you need to keep saving...

or hit up the junkyard, find a tranny for 100 bucks and do that conversion. then piece together a turbo setup for 1000. you could do it, but good luck.

you need to keep saving

that only aplies to 1st gen b16($1500+labor+s&h+tax). he would need at least a b16 2nd gen w/0bd2 equipped. just remember going fast cost money period!!!

Anyone know the cost of a D16y8 swap? Or LS swap? Or a good website to look for prices?

Depends on where you get them and mileage. Check Import Auto Salvage. They have great stuff! Or if you check the classifieds here you could probobally get one cheaper.
