Default intercooler too small for 450 to the wheels?

after i finish puttin gmy pistons and rods in im going back to dyno for 450 to the wheels. but i was told my intercooler is too small to flow the air needed for 450 to the wheels. is this true?

my intercooler is the one from the DRAG kit. i beleive it is about 1.5-2 inches thick.

in my honest opinion... it might make it to little more than 400+whp but I doubt it would be as efficient as a larger, thicker core at those power/ boost levels. I personally dont think it would make it to 450whp though (someone correct me if I am wrong).

for that kind of power level...it would probably be better to upgrade anyway.....upgrade to get better efficiency...also depends on the inlets and outlets ....

sorry to post off topic but....you guys really don't know what lip that is? There are a few out there that are really really popular and that is one of them. i'll give you a hint...it's not a mugen style or type-argh.

I'm in the same situation as you. I'm looking for about 450whp on high boost, but I think that will be pushing the drag intercooler limits. I am just going to upgrade to a greddy type 24.

You may be able to hit 450whp in that intercooler, but only for 1 pass on the dyno. Anytime your going to be using high boost for a prolonged time that intercooler is going to heatsoak. If you want repeatable power get a larger unit.

Justin

I'd like to se what would happen if you posted this in a DSM forum.

Us Honda guys go way over board with our setups IMO that intercooler should be able to handle that power level without a problem.

Drag's usually die out around the mid to upper 300 range.

For 450 you want at least a 3x8x24" core intercooler.

As far as size limitations go when putting together a set-up a good rule of thumb is it's always to have more then too little...

i think that ur i/c is to small for what ur trying to get to which is 450whp.i dont think it will flow enough being as it is only 1.5'' deep.....as somebody said on the thread it is always better to have to much then to little..............

a friend of mine locally in cincinnati made 518 whp with the drag intercooler about 3 years ago. he has since upgraded to a more efficient core. so it is possible just not the most efficient IC.
