Head unit and cds burning up... volume fluctuating??!?!
i have a kenwood head unit... cant remember the exact model, one of the medium-end models. anyway, i dont have an amp in my 96 ex coupe, and i usually play my stereo at volume level 25 which is fairly loud, but not really that intense. anyway, i notice that my head unit and cds get REALLY hot, and the volume, while staying at 25, goes way down in loudness for like 5 minutes, then will go back up, then goes back down. it does this even when i havent been listening to the stereo for very long... any ideas? maybe bad wiring? i had the alarm dudes wire it up for me when they did the alarm.
bad wiring is what it sounds like, i know there's an squeel you can get from bad wiring too, but i can't remember what this one is from, hopefully one of the other guys on H-T can help...bump
should i just take it back to the place and demand that they rewire it?
i would do that i just wanted to make sure it wasnt just cuz i didnt have an amp in the car... cuz i am putting one in for the regular speakers pretty soon its 200 watts.

mine does the same thing after listening to it at about 25 for a while, i believe it turns the volume down so it doesn't overheat
It sounds like it is most likely a bad ground for the Cd player or it is a bad cd. player Have someone or yourslef that knows electrical wiring to check the ohm reading on the ground wire. it shouldn't be more then .10-.15ohm's max if it is more it will cause the radio to do exactly what is happening to you. if the ground ohm reading is ok then you most likely got a bad radio.

that's the glory of having other professionals do your installations, if they eff up then they have to fix it themselves!!
the watt shortage shouldn't have anything to do with the head unit heat or volume fluctuating. the only thing that would happen there is speaker clipping and bad sound.

your prblem is this. you have a kenwood
i had been told not to buy a kenwood by many of my audio buddies cuz they have had problems with their preamps over heating. the problems they had were i denticle to yours, but i went and bought one anyways
same ish happend to me.
i replaced it with a blaupunkt austin cd41, big difference

the problem is not in the wiring....
instead of shutting down from overheating the headunit is going into a from
thermal protection where it limits the output so that the internal amplifier has
a chance to cool off. if you add an amplifier to your door speakers it will take
most of the work away from the head unit and although expensive it would fix the problem.....
