Default fm modulator

i just hook up my 5 in monitor on my head rest with a dvd player i plug in all the wiring except for the rca wires because im not sure where it goes...(either to my amp or headunit) everything works right now except for teh sounds...people was telling me i need a fm modulator...do i?

Well that depends, does your head unit support an auxilary input?

If you have a good head unit, you should be able to connect the rca from the dvd player to the rca on the head unit.

Then to listen to your movie, you can just change to AUX or something similar.

If your headunit doesn't support it, then you get an fm modulator, which is a separate device you hook up the rca on the dvd player to. Then you tune to the right station (i.e. 88.9 or something) and sound will come from the dvd player to the head unit via fm signal.

If you hook it up to the AMP, you will need some way of controlling it, since that would be like hooking up the speakers directly to the dvd player. It's possible, but I don't see the purpose unless you have an amp that takes multiple inputs and has some sort of remote input switch.
