Need tach adaptor for MSD digital 6+ install on b16a1?
I just installed a digital 6+ and was successful in getting the car to turn over once. It would idle fine but would misfire above 3000 rpm. The higher the revs, the worse the misfire would be. Anyway, it finally died and I haven't been able to start it since. The tech at MSD said I needed their tach adaptor in order for it to function correctly. I have never heard of anyone using one of these, even after searching through every post on this forum about an MSD ignition install. Has anyone else had to use this adaptor for a similar install?
I have a b16a1 with the msd digital 6 plus and ss blaster coil and everything works fine now problems and you DON´T need the tach adaptor. My advice is remove everything from your car and instal the msd again. i think you made a little mistake some where hooking your msd up.
Yeah, I thought wiring at first, too. Initially, it was the wiring and after looking at it for a bit I correcting my mistake. I know the wiring is ok now, though; I checked the plugs while cranking and verified that I'm definitely getting spark to all cylinders, not to mentiong the car actually ran for a bit.
When first trying to turn it over, I flooded the engine to the point where when I pulled the plugs out fuel was almost dripping off of them. I replaced the plugs and let the fuel evaporate and attempted to jumpstart the car (the battery was dying at this point). That's when it finally turned over and ran for about 10 minutes and eventually died. After this, I attempted to start it for a while. I checked the plugs after nearly 20 minutes of this and noticed that the engine wasn't flooded this time, which it definitely should have been. So, now I'm not getting fuel... I just don't understand why it would run for about ten minutes once then not turn over again.
So frustrating...

Maybe you can check the main realy it is under your dash to the left side of the carabove the handle wich opens the hood
The fuel pump is still priming. Wouldn't the fuel pump be nonfunctional if the main relay were bad? I'm not totally sure about what the main relay controls or what the symptoms of a bad one are. Somebody fill me in. Thanks.

Update:
I switched the ignition back over to stock and the car fired up immediately. So, it's not the main relay or ICM or coil. It's either that the damn MSD unit is fucked up or my wiring isn't correct. So, I'm going to explain how I wired it and hope someone can point out where I fucked up.
Obviously the two power wires are a no brainer.
Two wires originally connected to coil:
+ -> connected to red wire from MSD
- -> connected to white wire from MSD
From MSD:
orange -> + on coil
black -> - on coil
This is exactly how the ******* instructions say to hook it up and it still won't work. Like I said, it turned over once and ran but hasn't worked since. I even ordered the tach adaptor and tried it but noooooooo luuuuuuuck.
I'm thinking I'm going to have to send the unit to MSD to get it checked out.
Damn it all...

Did you buy the msd new ?? And i should sent back that tacht thing and get your money back because you don't need it !!!!!!!!!!!
Nope, it was used. That's why I'm starting to worry. The fact that the car turned over immediately after reconnecting the original ignition wiring proves that something is going on with the msd unit. Whether it's my wiring or the unit itself is bad, I dunno. Just have to do more testing, I guess.
Thanks for the replies rev_limiter.

No problems i hope it helped a little but if it is possible i would send the unit to msd to have them check it out. Maybe, if it is broke, they can fix it. Or try the msd on another car.
