car wont stay running.
the problem of not having a car for a while now is really getting to me and i have made some head way.
When i try to start my car, it cranks good and then catches but all that happens is the rpms start at 2000 for a cold start and just fall to nothing and the car dies. its like as soon as it starts it dies.
I thought that maybe it was the Idle Air Control valve on the back of the intake manifold at first and unplugged it. and it started with a code. so i thought great and took of the IAC and cleaned it along with the fast idle valve under the TB.
After putting them all back on i left the IAC unplugged and tryed to start it no go. same thign happened as before it woudl die as soon as it starts.
After trying to start it numerous times with it plugged in and out i finaly get it to start and it ran for maybe 2 minutes than just died. I managed to get it to start and drove it around for abotu 8 minutes and when i got back i left it idle and it didn't die.
my temp gauge never moved despite the engine was hot. (fan kicked on)
my tach is wacko, it reads higher than it should. (this was the original problem that started this)
does anyone have any thoughts on this. this was the first day in 3 weeks i have been able to start my car. I would love to drive it to work.

it only threw the code 14 when i had the IAC unplugged.
oh and i fixed my temp gauge. i inadvertantly knocked off the wire by the dist.

the only think i could say is, since your tach is all screwed up, that it has something to do with your distributor. have u checked all aspects of that? for instance, the ignitor, or the rotor and all that ****? most importantly the ignitor.
i have replaced the distributor. and checked everything i could according to the chiltons i have. I have not found a test that i can do to check the ignitor.
it could also be possible that my tach is shot.
