I just got an act prolite. Have not put it in yet though. Eh, whatever you want. Some people are bound to say mine is not heavy enough, your choice though - their street ones seem to be popular.

I like the ACT Xact. Installed a few and they seem really nice. one peice and forged seems pretty strong. I have had the 3 piece alu/steel ones come apart from heat, which was actually just really bad abuse. but either way they broke.

 

OEM Type R . 12.5 lbs which is great for boosting (minimal low end torque drop off)

 

ACT streetlite gets my vote

 

In turbo applications, is the lighter the better or not ?

AFAIK, you lose some low end torque, but gain some high end power with a light flywheel, IMHO I like the lighter ones. (but not so light that your car dies when the a/c comes on )

installed it...went to the track...went from a 15.0 to a 14.4. he would constantly hit
15.0 to 15.1 all the time. could never get into the 14's. installed this flywheel from ebay...hit a 14.4 the first time he went to the track with it.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I think in any application all you lose is inertia. All this should affect would be getting the car moving from a stop and how fast the revs fall when you shift. I have installed lots of sub 10lb flywheels in peoples cars that have never had one. No one ever complains about getting the car in moving from a stop. I can barely tell a difference myself. Having the revs drop a little faster will help you shift faster without forcing the syncros to make up so much of the difference.

Basically I would get the lightest one you can. It's just dead weight once your moving and therefore frees up some HP. ACT will disagree with me but from a performance standpoint it makes sense. maybe they make a street version is because it can absorb more heat without warping or something having to do with durability...ACTman chime in and add some tech to this...
