Help me make a decision.......build my b16 block or build ls/vtec...both fully built..kind of long :
Up until I read this and this, I was going to ditch my b16 block in favor of a b18b. I know both could meet my goals, I just can't decide. I guess, and correct me if I am wrong, it comes down to this:
High revving, high hp b16 + less torque or
Lower revving, high hp b18 + more torque.
I would rather spin the engine up to make power so I am leaning toward the b16. (the high rpm ricer in me), I like this quote :<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by trb0b16a »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">If you are resleeving then go b16. I'm running b16 with headwork at 84.5mm.
This setup is good for 500 plus hp, but more importantly I get to keep doing the sole thing that keeps me a honda driver, revving high. There may be no replacement for displacement, but there is no replacement for pushing 400whp in a 2000lb car while shifting at 9200rpm.</TD></TR></TABLE> and I guess one of the deciding factors is: with a built head and bottom end how high can I rev the b18b compared to the b16?
I THINK the lack of low end torque plus the high revving combined with a big turbo on the b16 would give me better traction than a similar setup on the b18b. Then again, I want the extra stroke of the LS....:sigh:.....help me decide.
I have an ek coupe with a b16a2, so If I keep the bottom end I have I would save some money. Are the setups about equal? b16's high revs - b18B's more torque. If so, I think I want the b16 - I just don't want to feel cheated when the build is done.
ps. I can't believe I just posted one of THOSE posts

what car is the engine gonna be in? i have a 307whp 212wtq b16a in a light del sol and it does nothing but spin the tires in 1st-3rd gears...K.I.S.S....LS/vtec is just another thing to go wrong..
Well those are my posts and I LOVE MY B16A it has ALWAYS served me well, made decent power stock and turbo 243whp and 176ft-lb torque 9psi , built and turbo and Hondata 370whp and 276 ft-lb 21psi with a small turbo. Now the #s it makes I amd impressed with it, it's all abot combination combination combination. Some people put MAD MONEY in a B16A or GSR/ITR and /or an LS/VTEC and make no power or not what they expected. It's all about combination and TUNING is key! I love my B16A, I thought about putting a B17A 81.4mm crank in it as a change to see what it would do. I also have a friend with a Darton sleeved LS block I thought about picking up as a spare but when it ain't broke don't fix it. The LS/VTEC def will make more torque no doubt, on lower boost levels my B16A seemed to have about the same as GSR but now at these levels it seems to be lower, but I haven't Compared to a Straight GSR, most people I know have GSR with LS cranks in BIG horsepower set ups, the advantage of LS/VTEC the torque and all without tapping the VTEC head and running lines.
What I am saying is BOTH set ups will serve your goals well, I am SWAYING towards B16A and Sav Leone has run a B16A all this time basically same set up as me but on Meth and has run a bezst of 8.80 or so. People want him to move up to a Bigger engine BUT he is doing sooooo well with what he has. Bigger is not always BETTER, I feel the lack of torque will help to hook up better even though this past weekend at the track didn't prove that.
Good luck and if yoiu have any ?s PM or sen me an IM on AIM Boostfed11

Mpir3, the car is a civic coupe (99 si), which is what boostfed has I believe.
Boostfed, thanks for your help. If I could get my car anywhere near yours I would be more than happy!
