Downshifted from REDLINE 3rd to 2nd. Is any thing messed up???? if so what?
I was going around a windy backroads and hit a turn at around 75-80 mph then the road started to straighten out so i decided to shift to 4th (but didnt, foot still on clutch). WHEN all of a sudden a sharp turn came outta nowhere and my body pulled to the left and i accidentally switched into 2nd from 3rd @ 8k rpms. THEN there was a HUGE JERK and I quickly slamed MY FOOT BACK onto the clutch. I was only in 2nd gear for a split second, but regardless there was a huge *JERK*
do you guys think any thing in my car is f-ed up now or what cuz i am really worried. THANKS

people do it all the time, sometimes they get lucky, sometimes they dont. what i hear on this subject is if it drives alright for a week with no problems, then ur good to go. u prolly revved ur motor up to 10-11k or so for a split second, so ur valves may be damaged a little. if there's tapping in ur valvetrain i would get them adjusted. other than that i dont see any real harm
messed up in your car nope...
just liste to her while is at iddle if you hear any small
sputers take it to the mekanic..

yep....learned that the hard way

oh so you guys are saying that i probably reved it to 10k !!!!!??? OMG then i definitly screwed something up. But keep in mind as soon as the car *JERKED*
I quickly slamed my foot on the clutch. I still dont think that 2nd GEAR WAS FULLY ENGAGED, atleast i hope so.

O BTW it was LOUD AS ***** when i accidentaly downshifted. Here is another question. Is it possible to downshift from 3rd to 2nd @ such HIGH RPMS wouldnt the transmission just bounce the shifter out kinda like when your moving foward and you try to put it in reverse.

the car jerked bc you dont make any power at 10k so u slowed down.. a lot... as said before, bent valves should be the primary concern, so u can either go get them checked or u can drive it for a week and see how it is..
if anything, like everyone said, it will be bent valves...something like that happen to me, but i wasn't so lucky, result: bent valves..for me...as for the rev limiter, from what i have been told time and time again, all it does is cut your fuel off, but if your already spinning so fast then even cutting off the fuel will not stop it from over revving...
OMG I JUST REMEMBERED!!!
THIS IS very important!!!
When i supposedly downshifted from 3rd @ 8k rpms to 2nd I heard the INTAKE SCREEAM AND I LOOKED at the RPM gauge and it was around 8k or so then I SLAMMED the clutch and put it in neutral.
Important question----------------VVVV
IFI OVERREVED it wouldn't the RPM gauge read at 9k rpms or above or is the rpm gauge not able to read past 8k?????

there really isnt anything you can do my postin up here bud, your best chance is to just take it someone get the valves checked if u got the xtra cash do a tuneup, if it still runs fine more power to ya, just get it checked out
dude ur like freaking out, this happens all the time.
u probably saw 8k on the needle cuz u looked at it right after it happened, right after the revs dropped a little... just calm ur *** down, drive the car normally for a week. if it's fine, it's fine. if you hear ticking coming from the valvetrain, then take it in to be checked/adjusted.

Ohhhh so there is no internal damage to the valves or pistons crank shaft ect.....???? if i did bend my valves do the need to be re-bent adjusted replaced or wut and if so how much is the cost....
if replaced, cost could be 275 or so.. but i dont think theyd need to... have you tried driving your car yet? the internals shouldve been able to handle the split second of overrevving, prolly created a little extra heat or somethin, but i cant think of anything it would seriously mangle... just turn on ur car and listen to how it sounds. tell me if u hear ticking.
I have already have driven for the past 2 days and it drives fine an idles perfectly.
No, i do not hear any ticking of the engine, nor do i hear any unusual sounds from the car. My only concern was of internal damage; as for the ticking noise, I have a pretty keen sense of sound and would have picked up on any unusual noises.

I dont blame you man for freakin out. I know that our cars are the most important part of our lives, but that chit happens all the time. One of my friends drove my car and did that and I saw the needle go past redline to the end of the tack!
Car still runs great and thats the last time I'm ever letting one of my friends drive my car.
