Installing cam gears...What else should I do during the install?
What's up,
I'm installing some STR cam gears on my gs-r and want to know what else should I do during the install? I figure I might as well change my timing belt and water pump. I'm also going to install a new ITR valvetrain.
Any other ideas?

The OE belt is pretty easy to snap. If you are looking to run some cams or boost in the future. Upgrade the belt and give your engine some added insurance.

Yeah. Make sure that the cam gears are properly phased and that cam gear locking bolts are tight before you button everything up. It's happened to way too many people to not make it common knowledge.
Use lube on journals and lobes, and thin smears of Hondabond where noted in the manual as well as on the camshaft seals.
Belt is optional. Very optional IMO. I haven't gotten around to working on the GReddy belt for John's Spec C's, but I've heard that they're hard to get the tension right on. Seems too gimmicky for me to use on a stock motor with factory parts already proven to work together just fine.

I'd rock a PE belt.
Like Ben said there are some tensioning issues with the Greddy belt.
My friend just got a PE belt for his WRX. Very very nice. No tensioning issues with it at all.
PE makes to Toda belts, but I heard there is a little slack on them untill they heat up. But they are still good too.
