hey guys. i recently purchased a 90 integra ls and sometimes, its really hard to shift it to first, you'd have to either
1. go shift to R and then go to 1
2. go to 2 and go back to 1.
can anyone out here tell me what the problem is? thanks!

my 97 teg ls does the same thing along with my friends 99teg ls, you just pump the clutch a few times and it'll go in fine but yea its your synchro in case you were wondering

i'm guessing its going to cost lots of $$?
btw, prior to what happened, the guy i bought the car from fixed the cv joint, adjusted the clutch cable. maybe some of these things could cause it to fault?
maybe i could try using a better tranny fluid??

I swear by the GM Synchromesh MTF as I have it in my GSR and it shifts much smoother now. But its pretty expensive so try just replacing the transmission fluid with regular Honda MTF, it will make a big difference especially if it has been a few years. I flushed the MTF in my 91 teg with Honda MTF and it made a huge difference, I dont think the previous owner ever changed the MTF.

I had the same issue and I got an exedy clutch( INCREDIBLE ESPECIALLY FOR 225 shipped new @ http://www.needclutch.com) it grips incredibley and was a great purchase. Oh and you don't have a DB I believe you have a DA6. The DB2's were the G2 GSR's. Check out http://www.g2ic.com for a bunch of info on G2's.

Nope, he has a DA9 (unless he has a JDM imported Honda Integra)

thats weird. it says on my serial...jhm...DB1....LS....xxx . but oh well.
i hope that its just the fluid guys. the shifting on the other gears are fine. its just that its really hard to shift in 1st gear while in a dead stop.
let me know if there are any other solutions you may have that could help me fix my problem.

Since he "adjusted" the clutch cable, you might want to double check his "adjustment". If it engages too close to the floor, it will sometimes be hard to get into 1st and reverse. I've had this problem before and it turned out to be the clutch cable out of adjustment. HTH

I just adjust mine so that it grabs the highest, just personal preference. But he has a sedan so its not a DA9(2 door code) maybe a DA8?
USDM:
Coupe: DA9
4 Door: DB1
GSR: DB2
JDM:
Coupe w/ B16: DA6
Who knows how many other there are (4 doors, ZC cars, etc.)...
My car used to be impossible to shift into first unless I was almost totally stopped. But after coaxing it into gear at 15-25 MPH, it eventually became easier and easier to do. There is no right or wrong diagnosis for your car. Production tolerance stacking, abuse, wear and tear, over heating and improper/infrequent maintainence are definitely things that can screw up a tranny. You may have a combo of them, who knows...
I guess thats the price we pay with **** *** weak FWD transmissions.

He has a 90-93 USDM/CDN Integra 4-door which is a DB1.
Have you tried re-adjusting your clutch cable?

i figured out something. i think my alternator is going to go but everytime the car is running the lights are dim, but when i revv it, the lights go brighter and is easier to shift the gears. could a worn out alternator be the problme?
Your transmission and alternator are not interconnected. Raising the engine speed may make it easier to put into gear, but a worn out alternator would not make or break a tranny.
sometimes on the old integra's where the shift linkage connects to the shifter under the car binds up. what you have to do is remove the bolt spray some lube in there and dont make it really tight when you your done. but this fix is if its hard to shift all gears. worth a try.
if that does not work you may need a synchro set.
