It uses a small PCB (Printed Circuit Board) with a battery.
When you push the button on the remote, it sends a radio signal to the alarms brain, and depending on the frequency the brain receives, it will arm or disarm the system.
The PCB board consists of various types of circuitry, I dont think you would understand much more from here.
