I just bought a 00 lude 5spd with about 32,000 miles on it. Just wondering what kind of normal wear and tear items I should replace besides oil? Do any of you guys notice when you are redlining and shifting from 2nd to 3rd the tranny feels like it grinds? I dont hear it but i can kinda feel it and it only happens on the 2 to 3 shift at redline not when i normally shift at 3k.
The grind is your synchro's going to hell. Very typical problem with the H series transmissions. Try using GM synchromesh transmission fluid, a few guys on the board had the same problems you are describing and it fixed it. As far as a permanent fix, the only real way to fix it for good is tearing the tranny down and replacing the worn synchro's.

Damn that sucks. I wonder why h series trannies are so weak. How much would taking the tranny apart vs. buying a new tranny cost?

Does anybody know where to get the gm synchromesh? or what the part # is? I cant seem to find a place to buy it.
Taking the tranny apart would cost a good amount, I would put some syncromesh in the gearbox right now, it seemed to help my 5th gear grind. If u do plan on taking the tranny apart i would go ahead and change all the synchros instead of having to take it apart again later.

he means be ready for the 2nd gear synchro to be worn out before the 3rd gear synchro. Meaning you are going to prolly end up replacing the 2nd gear synchro first.

mine is grinding going into 5th only. so when i shift into fifth i double clutch it and it doesn't grind. need to get me some gm synchromesh, should hold me off until i rebuild the tranny.
when i had my 89 hatchback with a b16 in it, i had grinds going into 2nd and 3rd. now i'm just wary of trannys that come from japan, should have rebulit it before i put it in, damn.

Yeah mines grinded twice in a power shift from 2nd to 3rd....but i think it was my fault, let the clutch out too soon...i have 43K on my lude....and the tranny is in great condition no problems getting in into gear....and really no shifting probs......

So do you guys think this is just a minor problem that synchromesh should fix? Other then the 2nd to 3rd powershift the tranny works well for the most part. Sometimes it doesnt wanna shift into 1st or R but it usually works for the most part.
