Default code 9: #1 cylinder position (cyp sensor)

ok, i'm pretty sure this problem lies within my distributor...but where exactly? i swapped out my old dizzy because it was grinding. used an old housing i had, swapped what i could over, and the car starts / idles / runs fine...the only thing is, i throw a code 9 and have no vtec. if this sensor is in the dizzy as i think the tdc is, can i take it out of the old housing and put it in the good one?

Hey, With these distributors you have to have the exact same housing. I have found that there are some dist. that look very much alike but upon dissasembling, there are different triggers and magnetos which may be overlooked. I just took one apart to rplace the very same bearing that went bad in yours. Just double check your plug wires too. Also this is interesting... I found one distributor that look the same and the rotor ended up mounting to the shaft 180 degrees diff. than the original.... this could be the same thing your experiencing since you've got a #1Cyl code. This is a tough problem. good luck

We had a Code #9 too. We're just going to put an entire new unit in the car. driveability at part throttle is the ***** with a bunk cyl. sensor.

P.S. The only manual that had Code 9 in it was the CRX Si manual, and it was penciled in. This was at the dealership.

i used another jdm 1st gen b16 dizzy housing...exactly the same.

my question is, can i take the erroneous sensor (code 9: cyp) out of the distributor and replace it with a working one?

it could also be an open in your wiring or a bad ecu...

i'll have to check the dizzy wiring, but i'm sure it's not my ecu as i wasn't throwing the code with the other dizzy i was using.

Make sue you set your timing to stock position as well. I was throwing a code 9 after my MPFI swap and I found it to be the timing tooo far advanced.

Would that be Cam timing or ignition timing?
I am getting this code after A b18A swap into my 1990 Civic Si.

i have wired about 10 MPFI and they are sucesfull

on my car (ironic isnt) i cant get it right
thats the only code i have

i have done all in my power to get it away
-taken a new ecu in
-new distribuitor
-rewired it 4 times and still there
-switched the cables
-re-run cables with a shielded one and separate
and havent had iti working
i gave up since there seems to be not a solution, no power loss (dyno proven) and runs great... so i say **** it

I did the same, went around the world to get rid of the code and still have it.

when code #9 come up, its either bad or incorrect wiring. It also mean that your combustion chamber is burning way too rich or too lean.
