Help with shipping..anyone here shipped an engine?
i just want to know how would i got about shipping and engine? what kinda box or what do i put the block and head in? if anyone has done this or seen anyone do this help me and spanishlude out with tips and just how to send thins engine out to him...any help will..ya help..Thanks Andres
I've had 2 engines shipped to me, both head and block together, they were placed on 2 pallets with 1 board missing for the oil pan to set down in. Then metal straps ran over both sides of the valve cover with cardboard under them to protect the valve cover. Then wrapped in saran wrap type wrap. The cost was only $190 from Cali all the way over here to FL. So I'd say your best bet is to find a freight company near you...or you could ship the block and head separate by ups or fed-ex etc. But you better pack those bastards up good. Your only other option is to buy a crate and put it in there, in which case you'll have to ship it vie freight because ups's weight limit is 150 so im sure fed-ex is around there as well.

I was able to find a perfect sized box, then i cut a piece of wood to put in the bottom of the box, then on top of that i put some of that pink Styrofoam insulation on top of the wood and secured the block/head to it. Then i packed the rest of the box with the insulation crap. It worked out good."

Two sections of 2x4 to cradle the engine, a small 36"x36" pallet, put it on there, cover motor with shrinkwrap then add cardboard boxes wrapped over top to protect all the sensors etc., band it all together.
Go to Forward Air Freight company, drop it off on their dock. Price for D16A6 from Columbus, Ohio to California was $78 and it arrived in excellent condition. Only one catch the recipient has to pick it up on the other side they don't deliver.
Saves alot on shipping.
Make sure you get the oil out first otherwise they might wanna charge Hazmat fees and then they have to fill out a bunch more paperwork and label it as such. You have to be a certified Hazardous Material handler to fill out the paperwork so you can't do this yourself.
