Default Engine Dilemma f23a1 block f22b2 head?

Sorry if the thread is already out there couldn't find it for this exact build. Just went to mechanics to have valve cover gasket replaced relatively simple job. OK. Apparently my 1997 honda Accord f22b2 automatic isn't what I thought. when ordering parts for car the car he had a little trouble? I was told my block is a f23a1 and my head is f22b2? Is that possible Idk where he got that from he was mumbling all kinds of nonsense. But I have f22b2 stamped on my engine? Is there a way of telling what my block is

Look right in front of the engine by the exhaust manifold. It'll have a block stamping.

It's entirely possible, the 94+ F22 and F23 blocks are virtually identical from the outside. All that would really be needed to mate the 2 together would be adding the oil jet/restrictor before bolting on the head.

If it was still a non-vtec F22 head, the VC gasket kit should fit fine. If he still has problems tell him he's a moron.

Alright checked for the stamp says f22b2. And much appreciated for the response guys. Just never heard of that setup is there a Performance reason someone did this? Or just for the heck of it

F22 is the best flowing head out of the series. F23 block for the stroke, iron sleeves, and torque.
F22 head for the horsepower and better flow.

That's like saying the Civic is the fastest Honda in the world. It takes a *LOT* of work on the F22A head to get it flowing better than a cleaned up H22 head. 98% of the head porters out there will end up with better numbers on an F23 head than an F22A head. Stock for stock the F23 head makes the F22A head look silly.

And BTW the F22B2 head doesn't flow anything close to either. The F22B2/F23 combo would just be a super-easy upgrade for someone who blew up their F22 shortblock but wanted to keep everything else the same.

Well no dip. I was referring to f series. It's no secret the h22 flows the best. I have one in my civic.

That's just what I heard and I suppose I heard wrong.

NP, I'm just tired of people worshiping the F22A for the wrong reasons. My F22B2 non-vtec made more HP and a lot more torque than any stock F22A I've seen so far, and it was the most basic of ebay bolt-ons.
