Boostin on Stock C1 Block...
How many of you are boosting on a stock GSR Block?
For how long have you been boosting?
What PSI are you running?
What kind of numbers do you put down?
What kind of turbo kits do you use?
Ive got a GSR swap in my civic, and i want to turbo it, but im so deathly afraid of it blowing it up, its my daily driver. How stout is this block in stock form?

Its tough to say how long it will last because nobody knows, but there are a lot of things you can do to make it last "longer". Making sure everything in the setup is perfect and top of the line parts. By using a good engine management (Hondata). And also by having a good well known tuner put a conservative tune on it. Also i'd say just boost 7psi until you have the money to build up the block....Thats what I am doing.

I agree with patdemps.
For example, a friends car--94 GSR
Specs (custom pieced turbo) < $2700: I'll just name the major parts
Stock block
Garret T40E turbo
Inline Pro mani (let him keep his AC/PWSteering)
Hondata S200
3" downpipe-->cutout exhaust
Tial Wastegate
DOH, i forgot what type intercooler...
Well, it got tuned by Church's Automotive in Carson, soCal:
The results:
Low boost @ 6.5psi = 253.xx WHP.
At that amount of boost, which is really safe, he will still be able to rip on the majority of imports out on the streets.

That amount of WHP is exactly what i'd like to be at. I think Im actually going to make a bit more but thats alright, as long as I am right around there. Great numbers

Yeah 250 would definatly be nice...i just want to know if i do everything right...hondata and such, and get it tuned with a wide band and shat, what kind of longevity am i going 2 have? I dont beat the **** out of my car ever, i treat it very well. my motor is 98, runnin OBD 1, with boltons, with a little over 50,000 miles.
I will only be boosting 5.8psi on my stock gsr block.. I am going to tune my hondata at church automotive.. I wonder what numbers i will be putting down.. We'll see in a couple weeks

Like stated above, its too tough to say when your motor will go or you'll have problems. The best remedy for getting rid of problems is by babying it, meaning do all the maintenance when its needed and ahead of time, watch everything. Do lots of searching and trying to understand everything about the turbo setup. The only thing you can do is broden your knowledge and build up your setup the best possible way. There has been many situations where setups have gone over 100k, does that means its going to happen to you....honestly no. But doesn't disclude you. If you take care of your car, it usually responds well. I don't see you have an problems in the future unless you get lazy and forget a few things here and there......
Sounds like your in the right direction though, by trying to obtain information is the best way. Thats what i've been doing for several months now. I feel like a knowledge hog compared to before....but thats what you get with free time and computer
. Ask questions, search and get ready for some fun. Just do all the right things and you should have a great setup/good powr and longevity. Goodluck and let us know how it goes, also if you need anything just post up in the forced induction forum, tons of info in there. also, some great people
If you have any questions id be glad to try and help you. Just PM me.

Well um...thanx
I really like my car, and this summer I want 2 take it to that next level. I love turbo cars, and I have a good knowlage of turbo setups, but I am not very familar with any of the tuning options and such. I would always run a conservative boost level, no more then 8 PSI ever. I just really want that psssst!! heh...
Dont even say get a Tsunami...I know a kid who had one...he showed it to me...and I just walked away. I havent talked to him to this day yet. I just want a clean, semi-jdm/ semi-sleeper that can be my daily driver for spring, summer and fall.
Im getting a Ford Festiva thats going 2 be my winter beater
Oh yeah...and my track car. Its got 63 HP foo...but i still beat cavalers with I/H/E lol its sad.
Wow way to jack my own thread and ramble. Anywho, I figure that if i get a decient turbo setup for around 3 G's including Engine Managment I should be nice. Eventually I want a fully built block, but thats not happening any time soon. If my engine blows up, I guess it would be the time for a full build up, lol. I mean when an engine blows, (more then the headgasket, IE rings or something) does it take any turbo parts with it?
Also will getting a thicker Headgasket help me out alot. I figure by lowering the compression, I would be safer huh?

bump...so how about that headgasket idea...i also have arp headbolts sitting around i figure i could use those with a thicker headgasket and i would have a better chance of not blowing my engine up. Any other suggestions that are not too expensive to increase "stoutness" of my GSR?
i was thinking more along the lines of a blockguard, lol? How much are rods? Billit I assume, probly like 400 bucks. I dont want 2 invest in rods if im not going 2 do a fully built block...
