Default :: mustang dyno questions ::

a friend of my dynoed 236hp/165tq at 10psi on a mustang dyno, the guy running the dyno said that that translates to about 271hp/180tq on a dynojet, is this true? (stock gsr, drag mani, t3/60-1, skunk2 im, fmu, stock injectors)

also, he had a dip in his graph at vtec, like it started to level off just before vtec, then the graph got real steep right after vtec (i dont have the dyno, but i will try to make something in paint), should he move the vtec engagement point forward or backwards?

this winter he is planning on switching out his fmu setup to uberdata, how much do you think he will gain from going from untuned fmu to street tuned uberdata? he is hoping for 375hp (dynojet), do you think this is realistic? i told him i thought it would be closer to 325hp. also, what will it take to get this setup to 400hp?

375 is alot for a stock block.

I hear most mustang dynos do show lower power then dynojet dynos.

*this is not the dyno* (tuner's printer was out of paper)

anyways, this is what the dyno looked like (kinda). right now the vtec was engaging at around 4800. should it be pushed forward to say 5200 or should it be pulled back to 4400? common sense tells me it should be 4400 but we just wanna make sure. anyways, here's the pic

I hate mustang dynos..... I still don't understand why they can't incorporate the correction their dyno's need in their software...... that and they break all the time..... go to a dynojet.

As for your vtec, its a manner of preference! I'd make it higher

i think you might be kinda screwed as far as the VTEC point. i say this because it seems like the low cam is fading too quickly and the high cam wants to get started later in the RPM band. anyone else agree? keep in mind this could be a flaw in the dyno too the way people are talking.

I've been told the differance is between 5 and 20%. I was guessing 10% on mine.
The Mustang put me at 482 hp (at low boost ), so dynojet HP would be 506 to 578, a pretty big spread!

I need to find a local Dynojet in the Philla area that dosn't cost a fortune! There's
one around the corner but he charges $225 an hour! Anyone have a good
place in the Philla. area?

They do have correction options.
what would you like the corrections to do?

do you want the numbers "corrected" to Dynojet numbers????

Both dynos simulate road/load conditions differently, hence the different numbers....

i'm not sure, somewhere in omaha i believe, its actually a 'he-said, she-said, friend-of-a-friend' thing, so i'm not even sure how accurate the whole story is, i just heard it and i was always curious about the difference between the two dynos and how to tune vtec

anyways, anyone else? thanks.

if u have stock GSR cams i would not even bother with Vtec controlling.
let the ECU do its job. i would instead adjust/tune cam gears if u have them.

its been my experience that mustang dyno read lower than ur dynojets and other dynos.

here is my dyno:

another person with basically the same mods put down 275hp on the mustang but dyno'd 295hp on a dynojet. take it for what its worth

I still don't understand why they can't incorporate the correction their dyno's need in their software

because the Mustang unit will alter the "correction" that you speak of, depending on the mass of the vehicle.

Dynojet < MustangDyno

Mustang unit is a far better tuning tool no question.

BTW: a Stock B18C1 with 6 psi yielded 211hp on our dyno,l FYI

I recently tuned a car on EJ's mustang dyno in Omaha using uberdata with the 3 bar option. Overall I was pretty impressed with how everything went. If you have any questions about his shop or anything let me know.

ej's? i'm not familiar with them, where are they located? also, what version of uberdata are you using? do you mind if i take a look at one of your roms? also, what are you using to erase chips? i am actually slowly try to learn how to use uberdata. i am hoping to get a good, safe rom to start tuning with. lemme know, thanks.

*edit* - in fact, maybe we can meet up tomorrow or something, pm me
