Default Early Rev Limit in D16z, but no CEL...?

Got a freshly rebuild D16z...no check engine light, no oil light. Engine hits the limiter at 5200 rpm.

Any ideas as to why it would act as if it were in safe mode, yet not show a CEL?

Hake sure you MAS (mass air sencor) is pluged up and works properly. I know that when it is left unpluged or is bad it will case an early rev limiter

Its a P28 ecu...funny thing is, if I plug in the Dx ecu, it rev limits even earlier.

Interesting...I have another map sensor, so I'll check it out.

Could your CEL be burnt out?

could be the ignition ignitor inside the distributor

check your map and tps sensor, could have them switched. I did that once

No it works...it comes on as the fuel pump primes.

It is definitely an EX ecu...unless there are a set of dx ecus out there marked "P28".

I'll try the ignitor next...I just tried the map sensor from a known working car, at it started to rev-limit at 4.5k.

I'm sure that's not it, cause it was a Dx originally that had the map sensor on the firewall, so the plugs aren't coming from the same loom.

I'll go ahead and varify everything at the ECU, though.

if you have any sort of VTEC control wired...check that as well. My e-manage made my rev cut at like 4000 because of a VTEC solenoid malfunction??

Its basically just a DX that got transformed into an EX.

One thing I did do, was rip all the internals from the DX distributor and put them into an EX casing to mount it. I've swapped parts between sohc and dohc distributors, so I didn't envision a problem.
