Default sohc vtec d16z6 vs d16y8 & d16z6 tranny vs D16y8 tranny

i was told to get a d16z6 long block and then use a d16y8 head cause it's better supposedly and get the head milled and then get some 96+ prelude injectors the 310's and my car will run pretty mean. and then i was told that i need to use my d16z6 tranny because it's better than the y8 tranny. at 1st i was thinking of getting a whole complete d16y8 but now i don't know. let me know what you guys think.

d16z6 = d16y8 they are the same

so are the trannies, same gearing, everything.... the only thing that is better is the 96-00 y8 motors and trannies, MIGHT have less mileage...than the 92-95 d16z6's

the intake manifolds on both are different also.....z6 = long, skinny manis. - better for the high end, high rpms...y8 = short, fat, mani. - better low end and midrange power....

i've had both, and i like the z6 i/m's better, they have more kick in the higher rpms..

I have the Z6 and my friend has the Y8 and my car feels faster and I always pull on him in high rpm and get a jump(thats probably just cuz of him though) when we race but we end up about even so I would go with the Z6 tranny but hey! thats just me! and good luck

-more power to sohc thats what Im talkin 'bout

z6's and y8 are not the same. Hmm ever looked at the combustion chambers of the z6 and y8 heads MIRRA? The CC's of the combustion chambers of a z6 motor is 34.6 cc's while no a y8 is 32.8 cc's. Ever tried flowing a y8 head vs a z6? A y8 flows less because of the unequal design of the intake ports on the y8 for emissions. There is no difference in trannies. Put some 88-89 integra pistons in your z6 motor. Those pistons in a y8 head will probably increase your compression a little to high for daily driving... However, many people have done it before. But I know stockton has only crappy 91 octane hahah.... Lates Eziekel... If you have any question you know who to call.

guys-

Just a note- the y8 head has superior combustion chamber design vs. the z6. The port issue with the y8 head can be corrected with some moderate port work. With said porting, you will have a super sohc vtec head.

Also, the y8 trannies have stronger shift forks.

why not,get z6 head rework the combustion chambers(by a reputable shop),get some pm7s pistons,fly cut them and if you want to drop the cr abit.mill the dome to reduce it's cc.s

Y8 head has better Quench zones, but Z6 head has better top end flow... Basically use the head you have... (I'll be using a stage 2/3 Z6)

Y8 and Z6 trannys have the same gearing. Y8 Has strong steel shift forks, whereas the Z6 has Aluminum shift forks that are prone to breaking.

you have it backwards. longer runners will make the resonant frequency lower. shorter runners will work better for top end.
