D16Y8 VS D16Z6
I just wanted to know what's the difference between the D16Y8 and the D16Z6 engines. I know the D16Y8 is SOHC Vtech...Any power difference between the two?

They are both SOHC VTEC. D16Z6 is 92-95, D16Y8 is 96-00. They both put out approx. the same power.
Some of the Differences:
Y8 has a slightly more aggressive cam, smaller combustion chamber, slightly higher compression pistons, steel shifter forks, and a better intake manifold and exhaust manifold design.
Z6 has a better flowing head, and an OBD I ecu which is more tunable than the Y8's OBDII.
Other than that the engines are VERY similar and most parts interchange with ease.

The D16Y8 puts out a whopping 2 more horsepower

That's 2 more peak HP, but what about the whole power band? You'd think that slightly higher compression, more lift (I think) on some of the cam lobes and better manifolds would yield more power...

It's that darned Y8 head. I guess in order to achieve ULEV status, they "cocked" a port over one of the intake valves to induce extra swirl in the combustion chamber (for a cleaner burn). People have gained a significant amount just by fixing that one port.
