I was wondering if any of you had any helpful hints on winterizing the R and protecting her from any damage....i know it may sound silly but i am looking for things like how many time you start her up, if you add anything to the gas b/c she sits all winter etc....forgive me i am a chic help me out....

If you're not going to read that whole list just yet, here are a few quick suggestions.
Full tank of gas with some "Stabil" additive to keep the gas usable during/after storage.
A fresh oil change couldn't hurt.
Ideally you might want to put it up on jack stands, but even leaving it on the pavement/cement over the winter shouldn't be much of an issue wrt letting the tires sit on one spot (maybe even add a few PSI).
Either disconnect the battery, or use a decent trickle charger (especially if you are still going to be using an alarm)

Shower and shaver ... hehe, a nice wash/wax and a car cover ought to about do it.

Has it been snowing bad in the Mid-Upstate area yet?
I haven't been to my dentist (and close friend) for a while and, well, think I may need to have something looked at ... in Delmar/Glenmont.

 

Thanks SO much....not too much snow yet. Up north more there is some. Hey Glenmont may be a reasonable trip (i will have to see how far we are from there....may be a hike)....when are you coming up?

Really depends.
I usually give Ginny a call and see when I can stay over for a bit, then I call her office and make an appointment (usually for a Firday, even though she usually only works Mon-Thurs ... she's good at making it easy on me).

If you (and/or a few others would like to get together) I could stop by on the way up or something.
I'd like to show her family my little Turbo beast, but if the snow comes in and such I may have to drive my little old rex (Expo 3, beginner session Sunday morning, black flagged). LOL!

I have heard that overfilling the tires by ~5psi is a better idea than setting the car on jackstands for long periods of time FWIW, but what the heck do I know

hey T,how have you been?
I put a little more than 1/2 bottle of stabil in the gas tank and then fill it up. Put some extra air in the tires (45 1bs or so) and just buy a cheap car cover. It's kinda of cold out now, but I wash and wax the car before I put it away. I start my car about every three weeks and run it till it warms up to operating temp. I may take it out a few times this year when the roads are clean.
