Replaced IACV & FIV, Still Surges.. Whats Next?
Hey everybody,
I got a 91
Accord, 4dr EX, 5Sp. I just replaced the motor in this car after a pesky
cinderblock jumped in my way. The motor I replaced it with was a 44k mile motor thats been sitting since 1997. It runs really really smooth and is mechanically in shape. It's developed a surging idle.. I've replaced the Idle Air Control Valve, and the Fast Idle Thermo Valve. Whats next? It's driving me nuts!! Much thanks in advance.
Daniel, TX
Oh and I reset the ecu as well. 24hrs no battery cable & no 7.5amp fuse.

Thanks guys, The light is out in my garage.. All I have for light is a flashlight. Could you be more specific on which screw to adjust?..
The coolant system is bled, had to do that after a friend was like here man air comes out of this hose on the IACV. Nice antifreeze shower.. Checked out the PCV Valve, It definately has vacuum. But with the car off, I shake it up and down and can faintly hear a click click. Is it supposed to be a audible sound?
IACV valve bolts nice and snug, triple checked myself to be sure I didn't pinch the o-ring.
Any more Suggestions?

K done, CARB CLEANER brand into end of PCV valve, set about 2 minutes, now creates much louder sound. Started it up from cold, Fast idle at about 1300rpms... Everything sounding good. Try turning the AC on after the car had warmed up. And
it began surging between 600-2000 rpms while sitting in my garage. Turn the AC off, and problem goes away. Anyone wanna buy an Accord that has an idling problem??
It only seems to do this surging if the AC is turned on, or If you're coming to a stop and u take the car out of gear. Then it does it 1 time and goes back to idling normally. With the AC, its constant until you turn it off.

The PCV on my car was completely stuck. The piston wouldn't move and it didn't affect my idle at all. I would look elsewhere.
Check Electric Air Control Valve, Fast Idle and Air Boost Valves for operation. Also check Map sensor, fuel injectors and EGR system.

heres a list to check
ENGINE LOPES WHILE IDLING OR IDLES ERRATICALLY
1. Vacuum Leakage
2. Leaking EGR valve
3. Air filter clogged.
4. Fuel pump not delivering sufficient fuel to the fuel injection system.
5. Leaking head gasket.
6. Timing belt and/or pulleys worn
7. Camshaft lobes worn.
thats the list from my HAYNES if that helps?

If the idle surges up and down when warm there are two posibilities:
1) throttle position sensor is bad
2) map sensor is bad
good luck
