As far as I know, An EGT deals some with helping your a/f ratio calibrations, but it's timing that really affects EGT's. I'd just stick w/ your wideband.

Not completely necessary but it won't hurt.

EGT is just for exhaust gas temp. It basically good in conjunction with a wideband for ignition timing.

the temp displayed on an exhaust gas meter(pyrometer) represents how rich or lean your running your fuel by temperature, more or less. So if it shows a high tempuerature, say 1400-1600F your running way to lean, and if its showing 600-1000F your probably to rich. You can use this and a cheap narrow band sensor to do some excellent road tuning of fuel curves without a wideband if you know what your doing. I got my fuel just about dead on to 12.5:1 for my turbo set up just on road tuning, only made a few changes at high rpms when i ran a wideband on dyno. I suggest using a wideband and an exhaust gas meter, to help drivabilty and to build a low throttle map for your motor. Running a little extra fuel under low throttle helps keep turbo temperatures low which is always a bonus. It will also alert you to how hot your exhaust is getting and when you should give your car a break from high temperatures. If you dont have one, no biggie! good luck

changing the timing soley can change the EGT's just as much as any fuel changes can.

IF your tuner is worth a ****, he will only need a wideband, you can calculate the correct timing you need.
